Premier's Statement on B.C.'s Olympic Medalists
VICTORIA – Premier Gordon Campbell issued the following statement today to congratulate the three British Columbians who earned Olympic medals in Beijing on Saturday: “All British Columbians and people across the nation are incredibly proud of Carol Huynh of Hazelton, Dave Calder of Victoria and Scott Frandsen of Kelowna for bringing home some of our country’s first Olympic medals from Beijing. “Each one of these athletes has spent countless hours training, practicing and perfecting their abilities to reach this pinnacle. The dedication and commitment they have shown is an inspiration to all of us. “The fact that these three athletes come from all corners of our province is evidence of the strength, diversity and quality of our communities. I’m also proud to note that rower Dave Calder is a member of B.C.’s talented public service in the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. “Congratulations to Scott, Dave and Carol, and good luck to all of the Team Canada athletes who will be competing in the days to come. All of British Columbia is cheering for you.” Carol Huynh of Hazelton won gold in women’s 48-kilogram freestyle wrestling. Scott Frandsen of Kelowna and Dave Calder of Victoria won silver in men’s pair rowing. -30Media contact: Doug Brown Office of the Premier 250 387-1398
