United Way of Calgary and Area is the largest non-government source of funding for human
care and community support programs in Calgary. United Way works with its community
partners to build sustainable solutions for the future, while providing services today to
improve the lives of people when they need it most.

United Way has an immediate opening for a permanent full time Director, Community
Building. The successful candidate will oversee United Way’s investments in the community
and build strong relationships with key community partners. The Director, Community Building
is skilled at managing change processes and people, and has a deep passion for social change.

Key Accountabilities

      Lead change processes
      Work with multiple stakeholders to develop strategies that create community impact and social
       change
      Lead and facilitate volunteer committees through strategy development and investment decision
       making
      Build the capacity of organizations and the community to advocate for social change
      Liaison and work with other divisions within the organization to contribute to being a community
       impact organization

Knowledge and Skills

      Ability to dream, vision and lead change management
      Ability to analyze and synthesize large amounts of information
      Able to lead staff teams in an interdisciplinary environment, to work collaboratively with multiple
       stakeholders and build strong relationships with agencies, businesses and governments
      Excellent interpersonal skills and facilitation skills, including tact, maturity and sensitivity to
       individuals and conditions in different cultural and organizational contexts
      Experience in volunteer management and a strong record of working successfully with volunteers
      Excellent oral, written, research and evaluation skills with demonstrated strong presentation skills
      Familiar with contract management and the human services community

Experience and Qualifications

      Graduate degree in a relevant discipline and at least five years experience in a senior management
       position
      Experience in leading change management initiatives, leading high profile projects, working with
       senior volunteers
      Passion for social change
