Introduction
       This file contains information on the default fuel chains available for reporting under the RTFO
       together with data and information that can be used to modify these chains with actual qualitative
       information or quantitative data.

       The information contained in each sheet is detailed below. Further explanations on the procedures
       for using the data contained in these sheets are available in the Technical Guidance document.

Carbon intensity default values

Fuel characteristics
       This sheet contains the lower heating values and the moisture content of the feedstocks,
       intermediary products, co-products, biofuels and fossil fuels.

Emissions factor
       This sheet contains the emission factor for all the materials and energy inputs used in the

the RFA using RED methodology
Figures in red show where it has not been possible to replicate the "typical" carbon intensities as published in the RED. Please
see the note at top of the "fuel chain summary" worksheet for more information on this.
Please note, typical values are only provided as extra information. Unless actual values are used to adapt the fuel chains,

   1 Typical values are only provided as extra information. Unless actual values are used to adapt the fuel chains, only the
   default carbon intensities and default GHG emission savings can be reported.

   2 The typical value for the corn to ethanol chain presented in this table is our best attempt at replicating the typical value
   published in the RED. However, the carbon intensity of the Crop Production step is far lower in this document than in the
   RED, and thus the typical value presented in this table is different from the one published in the RED.


   3 The typical value for the farmed wood to ethanol chain presented in this table is our best attempt at replicating the
   typical value published in the RED. However, the carbon intensity of the Crop Production step is higher in this document
   than in the RED, and thus the typical value presented in this table is different from the one published in the RED.


   4 The typical value for the waste wood to ethanol chain presented in this table is our best attempt at replicating the typical
   value published in the RED. However, the carbon intensity of the transport and distribution step is higher in this document
   than in the RED, and thus the typical value presented in this table is different from the one published in the RED.


   5 The typical values for all the wheat to ethanol chains presented in this table is our best attempt at replicating the typical
   values published in the RED. However, the carbon intensity of the Crop Production step is higher in this document than in
   the RED, and thus some typical values presented in this table are different from the ones published in the RED.

   6 The typical value for the wheat to ethanol (lignite as process fuel in CHP plant) chain presented in this table is our best
   attempt at replicating the typical value published in the RED. However, the carbon intensity of the conversion step is lower
   in this document than in the RED, and thus the typical value presented in this table is different from the one published in
   the RED.

   7 The typical value for the wheat straw to ethanol chain presented in this table is our best attempt at replicating the
   typical value published in the RED. However, the carbon intensities of all the steps are slightly higher in this document
   than in the RED, and thus the total typical value presented in this table is different from the one published in the RED.


   8 The typical value for the farmed wood to DME chain presented in this table is our best attempt at replicating the typical
   value published in the RED. However, the carbon intensities of all the steps are slightly lower in this document than in the
   RED, and thus the total typical value presented in this table is different from the one published in the RED.


   9 The typical value for the waste wood to DME chain presented in this table is our best attempt at replicating the typical
   value published in the RED. However, the carbon intensities of all the steps are slightly lower in this document than in the

   value published in the RED. However, the carbon intensity of the Crop Production step is higher in this document than in

   replicating the typical value published in the RED. However,] the carbon intensity of the conversion step is higher in this

Please note, on this worksheet, the emissions for each module are calculated with the best available data provided by the Commission. However, not all the totals exactly
match the published RED default values. We are working to try and understand reasons for these differences (please see that RFA website for more information on this
subject). Those figures shown in red do not match the RED, those shown in black do. Those figures shown in blue represent fuel chains for which the RED did not provide
default or typical values at all but for which we have calculated new default values.

The data on this worksheet can be used if you wish to use actual data for certain modules to calculate a carbon intensity. If you are not providing data for the conversion
module (i.e. processing data), the emissions from conversion will need to be multiplied by 1.4 in order for the emissions to be conservative. If the carbon calculator is used this
multiplier will be added automatically.

To use default values only, please use the carbon intensities provided on the previous worksheet.
