You are responsible for completing the
drills even if you are not in class when we
do them.

Drill #1
•Homework: Parent signature on English letter. Due next class.
•Supplies due 9/7
•Objective: The students will become familiar with classroom expectations and
procedures.
•Drill: What one goal do you want to accomplish in English this year? What specific
actions are you willing to take to reach this goal?

Drill #2 (A,D,F,H)
•Homework: All supplies due 9/7
•Review the Parts of Speech
•Objective:The students will review the parts of speech through collaborative activities.
•Drill: Describe in detail your strengths and weaknesses in English. What do you want to
work on this year?

Drill #2 G Block
•Homework: All supplies due 9/7
•Figurative Language comic due 9/7
•Objective:The students will review the parts of speech through collaborative activities.
•Drill: Describe in detail your strengths and weaknesses in English. What do you want to
work on this year?

Drill #3
Homework: Review Parts of Speech (Pop Quiz Coming soon)
Supplies 9/7
Objective: The students will analyze figurative language that contributes to meaning
and/or creates style and be able to identify figurative language in literature.
Drill: Paraphrase the objective.
(Hint: Paraphrase means to put the statement into your own words.)

Drill #3 G Block
Homework: Figurative Language Comic Due 9/7
Supplies 9/7

Objective: The students will analyze figurative language that contributes to meaning
and/or creates style and be able to identify figurative language in literature.
Drill: Paraphrase the objective.
(Hint: Paraphrase means to put the statement into your own words.)

Drill #4
•Homework: Review parts of speech (pop quiz coming)
•Objective: Students will continue reviewing the parts of speech  by creating a study
guide.
•Drill:Identify as many parts of speech as you can in the following sentence.
The wacky dog, Toby, quickly chases the ruthless cat, Hercules, around the house today.


Drill 4 G Block
•Homework: Review parts of speech, figurative language and 6+1 for quiz on 9/15
•Objective: The student will demonstrate the ability to compose oral, written, and
visual presentations that inform, persuade, and express personal ideas and the
ability to self-reflect on their writing development.
•Drill: Think for a minute about who you are, consider what your values in action are.
Compose one sentence that states your values and how you act upon them.

Drill 5 G block
•Homework:Continue Reviewing Quiz on 9/15
•Objective:The students will continue to review the writing traits and explore how to use
them to improve writing.
•Drill: Revise the following statement. Which writing trait did you use?

The police chase the pair of clumsy bandits. John and Paul need guitar string, but have no
money. The pair decide to liberate some guitar string from a local music store.

Drill 5 ADFH
•Homework: D,F,H figures of speech comic
•All Review for quiz on 9/16
•Objective:The students will continue to review the writing traits and explore how to use
them to improve writing.
•Drill: Think about your values in action. Compose a statement that describes your
values and why they are your values.
