Together with the introduction of the all-new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with 284 horsepower that will join
the 2012 Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Wrangler Unlimited lineup - now also enhanced by improved on-road
driving comfort - the American brand showcases in Frankfurt the all-new Jeep Wrangler Arctic special-edition
model and adds a new factory-customized model to the Wrangler offer.
In the spotlights of the Jeep stand in Frankfurt, the all-new the Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior Concept: a
design study created to explore the stylistic potential of the Jeep flagship. The exclusive White Gold exterior
delivers additional refinement and style to Jeep Grand Cherokee. The cabin of the Interior Concept
introduces a new concept of elegance and accommodates driver and passengers in an exclusive living room
of soft Blue leather.
Jeep also presents to the public in Frankfurt the new Flex Fuel version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine

The theme for the Jeep stand in Frankfurt is "The Power of a Line": the line stands for lineage and
symbolizes the strength of the legendary Jeep heritage. It traces back 70 years to tell the story of constant
evolution of an iconic brand in the automotive industry. A brand that stands for the true original off-road
vehicle. A brand that has always been able to reinvent itself while it always stood for the same core values
retaining its DNA. Reaching back seventy years, the line is virtually connecting the original 4x4 dated 1941 to
the products of today.
Located inside the Hall 6, the 760-square-metre exhibition area features a functional design.
The stand shows the multiple terrains where the Jeep vehicles can express their capabilities: in the city as
well as on extreme off-road tracks. The columns are transformed into dynamic elements that, thanks to large
LED surfaces, will interact with the screen placed on the wall in the background. Here emotional videos will
feature the main characteristics of each Jeep model.
Also the use of colours has been carefully studied: the white, gray and beige on the stand‟s floor mark off
around the show-vehicles the boundaries between sand dunes, snow drifts and grand city boulevards:
perfect backgrounds to test the 4x4 capability and on-road performance of the Jeep SUVs.
A dedicated area will host the merchandising corner where elegant display cases will present the newest
Jeep lifestyle collection.

Awe-inspiring powertrain
Powering the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is Chrysler Group‟s all-new 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 with Fuel
Saver Technology that delivers 470 horsepower (351 kW) and 630 Nm of torque – an improvement of 50
horsepower and 61 Nm torque over the 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 it replaces.
An active intake manifold and high-lift camshaft with cam phasing delivers maximum low-end torque while
optimizing high-end power across a wider and improved rpm band. Specifically, 90-percent of peak torque is
available between 2,800 and 6,000 rpm, allowing for inspired standing starts and improved straight-line
performance.
Standard Fuel Saver Technology and a new active valve exhaust system allows four-cylinder operation to
engage over a wider rpm range, to deliver both improved fuel efficiency – a 13-percent increase on the
highway – and an extended range of 720 km on one tank of gas.
Standard steering wheel mounted paddle shifters join the standard Auto Stick on the floor. Both are mated to
a proven automatic transmission, allowing a choice of spirited shifting on the road and the race track. Both
methods give the driver the ability to shift while the transmission controller calibration prevents situations that
might over rev the engine. Fully adaptive electronic control of all shifting makes the powertrain more
responsive while minimizing harshness.
Outstanding ride, handling and capability
For 2011, all Jeep Grand Cherokee models boast an improved and refined on-road ride thanks in part to the
vehicle‟s body structure. Torsional stiffness was improved 146 percent versus the previous model, for
improved ride, durability and reduced noise, vibration and harshness. The improvement is achieved with
more than 5,400 welds in the body alone, marking a 53-percent increase in spot welds, a 42-percent
increase in arc welds and a 38-percent increase in structural adhesive.
With the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Jeep engineers have improved on-road handling even further.
The best handling Jeep vehicle ever – capable of .90 g on the skid pad – features a new SRT-tuned, active
damping suspension managed by the new Jeep Selec-Track system. This system interacts with several
different systems (stability control, active damping, transmission shift strategy, transfer case torque
proportioning, Electronic Limited Slip Differential performance, throttle control and cylinder de-activation) to
automatically tune the dynamics of the vehicle. Drivers can manually choose between five dynamic modes
for specific driving conditions:
Auto: provides the most compliant ride and automatically adapts to any road situation using the
active suspension tuning
Sport: provides enhanced body control for a sporty, fun-to-drive ride for the street
Tow: provides a safe reduction in pitch and bounce for enhanced towing capability
Track: provides the high-performance, firm, “track-tuned” suspension option to lock down body
motion for the ultimate handling experience
Snow: provides the most conservative dynamic mode, so the vehicle will safely stay
in-line in inclement winter weather conditions
Quadra-Trac active on-demand four-wheel-drive transfer case is standard on the Jeep Grand Cherokee
SRT8 model. This 4x4 system uses input from a variety of sensors in order to determine tire slip at the
earliest possible moment and take corrective action. The system uses Throttle Anticipate to sense quick
movement in the throttle from a stop and maximizes traction before slippage occurs. When tire slippage is
detected, the Jeep 4x4 system can transfer up to 100 percent of available torque to one rear wheel.
The transfer case also enhances handling by proportioning torque between the front and rear axles to
maintain the driver‟s intended path. The new Grand Cherokee SRT8 also features an Electronic Limited Slip
Differential, which eliminates rear wheel slip and improves handling.
The performance-tuned, fully-hydraulic steering system is improved with a new, heavy-duty pump and pump
cooler. Revised gearing gives drivers more direct feel and on-center response.
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 features new split 5-spoke, 20-inch forged aluminum wheels.
Rounding out the capability of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is a trailer tow rating of 2,270 kg.
Benchmark braking
Chrysler Group‟s SRT vehicles are well known for their world-class braking. Stopping power for the new
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 comes courtesy of new SRT high-performance Brembo brakes with four-wheel
anti-lock brake system (ABS).
Stopping distance performance of 35 meters from 100-0 km/h is made possible by new red-painted, Brembo
6-piston (front) and 4-piston (rear) calipers, and vented rotors at all four corners measuring 38 cm (front) and
35 cm (rear).
Sporty and functional exterior
The lowered, aggressive profile of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 reveals the unmistakable Jeep
personality and unique SRT DNA. The functional performance exterior features the “planted” look of a high-
performance sports car by being lowered 3 cm and adding new, SRT-exclusive, body-color wheel flares and
side sill cladding.
A one-piece front fascia contains new LED multi-function daytime running lamps that result in an exclusive
face for the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, while a body-colored front grille with a unique black screen
background and chrome bezel inserts adds to the aggressive look.
The integrated lower front grille is painted in gloss black and a newly designed underbody belly pan features
integrated brake ducting to improve cooling and fade performance. Completing the new front end is a newly

steering input measurements, horsepower, torque, 0-100 km/h time, 100-0 km/h braking distance, g-forces,
and covered distance times, along with expanded engine information.
New SRT-styled Nappa leather and suede seats, with sculpted bolsters and adjustable headrests, provide all
the comfort for daily drives – and “grip” to keep the driver and passengers in place during spirited driving.
The embroidered SRT logos and contrast stitching accent the two front seats. Heated (front and rear) and
ventilated (front) seats are standard.
Carbon fiber accents are integrated into the instrument panel and door trim panels and new bright, racing
style brake and pedal pads add to the high-performance look inside the cabin.
The Command View® dual-pane sun roof provides twice as much glass surface than a standard sun roof
and extends from the windshield to the rear of the vehicle. The interior cabin is further enhanced by premium
leather-wrapped door trim panels, center console and instrument panel.
Safety and security
As part of the standard equipment, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 offers a vast array of safety and
security features, including:
Active head restraints: Deploy in the event of a rear collision. Restraints are designed to reduce
injuries by minimizing the gap between the head restraint and the passenger‟s head;
Adaptive cruise control (ACC): The system decreases the vehicle‟s pre-set cruise-control speed
when closing in on another vehicle in the same lane, or when another vehicle pulls into the same
lane. The system will accelerate to the pre-set speed when the vehicle in front speeds up or moves
into another lane. ACC will maintain a driver adjustable distance between the vehicle and the one in
front of it, allowing the use of cruise control in light traffic without having to continuously adjust
settings;
Advanced multi-stage air bags: Inflates with a force appropriate to the severity of the impact for
smaller, out-of-position occupants;
Blind-spot Monitoring (BSM): Uses dual ultra-wideband radar sensors to aid the driver when
changing lanes, or if being passed by or passing unseen vehicles. The system notifies the driver of
vehicle(s) in their blind spot via illuminated icons on the sideview mirror and with a driver-selected
audible chime;
Brake-traction control system (BTCS): Helps to keep driving wheels from spinning
during acceleration from a stop or during slow speeds by applying individual brakes to the slipping
wheel(s);
Electronic roll mitigation (ERM): An extension of electronic stability control (ESC). Uses input from
ESC sensors to anticipate if the vehicle is at risk of entering a potential roll situation, then applies the
brakes individually and modulates the throttle position as needed;
Electronic stability control (ESC): Enhances driver control and helps maintain directional stability
under all conditions. Provides the benefit in critical driving situations such as turns, and is valuable
when driving on mixed surface conditions including snow, ice or gravel. If there is a discernible
difference between driver input through the steering wheel and the vehicle‟s path, ESC applies
selective braking and throttle input to guide the vehicle back on to the driver‟s intended path;
Energy-absorbing steering column: The power-adjust steering column employs a calibrated bending
element that deforms during column stroke for optimal energy management;
Enhanced Accident Response System (EARS): Makes it easier for emergency personnel to see and
reach occupants in the event of an accident by turning on the interior lighting and unlocking doors
after air bag deployment. Also shuts off flow of fuel to the engine;
Forward Collision Warning (FCW): Using forward-facing radar sensors, this system detects when the
vehicle may be approaching another vehicle too rapidly and alerts the driver so the driver can
determine what action must be taken in order to prevent the vehicle from a collision;
High-intensity discharge (HID) Bi-Xenon headlamps: Provide approximately three times the light
output of conventional reflector lamps for improved nighttime illumination;
Hill-start Assist (HSA): Assists drivers when starting a vehicle from a stop on a hill by maintaining the
level of brake pressure applied for a short period of time after a driver‟s foot is removed from the
brake pedal. If throttle is not applied within a short period of time after the driver‟s foot is removed
from the brake pedal, brake pressure will be released;
Keyless Enter-N-Go: When an individual enters the vehicle, electronic sensors detect if the vehicle
key fob is present. The vehicle will then allow the individual to push a button to start the vehicle
without having to insert the key into the ignition;
ParkSense® rear park assist system: Assists at low speeds in reverse to detect stationary objects.
Consists of audible warnings for the driver and has a display in the Electronic Vehicle Information
Center (EVIC) integrated into the instrument cluster;
ParkView® rear back-up camera: Provides a wide-angle view of the area immediately behind the
vehicle, giving the driver greater peace of mind before reversing at low speeds. Contains grid line to
aid the driver when maneuvering into parking spaces or narrow areas. Also aids in lining up a trailer
to the vehicle‟s trailer hitch, when so equipped. The image is displayed on the navigation screen
when the transmission is shifted into Reverse;
Power tilt-and-telescoping steering column with memory: Allows steering column to tilt and move
toward or away from the driver to achieve a safe and comfortable distance from the advanced multi-
stage front driver air bag, if deployed;
Rain Brake Support: Uses the ESC pump to occasionally push brake pads lightly against brake
rotors in rainy conditions in order to keep rotors dry;
Ready Alert Braking: Anticipates situations when the driver may initiate an emergency brake stop
and uses the ESC pump to set brake pads against rotors in order to decrease the time required for
full brake application;
Rear Cross Path (RCP): In parking lot situations, this system warns drivers backing out of parking
spaces of traffic moving toward their vehicle. It activates any time the vehicle is in Reverse. The
driver is notified of vehicle(s) crossing behind the vehicle via illuminated icons on the sideview mirror
and with a driver-selected audible chime;
SmartBeam® headlamps: Headlamp system adjusts to ambient light and oncoming traffic to deliver
maximum lighting;
Standard full-length side-curtain air bags: Extend protection to all outboard front- and rear-seat
passengers. Each side air bag has its own impact sensor that autonomously triggers the air bag on
the side where an impact occurs. This type of air bag is housed in the headliner just above side
windows;
Standard seat-mounted side thorax air bags: Provide enhanced protection to the
driver and front outboard passenger in certain impacts. Each side air bag has its own impact sensor
that autonomously triggers the air bag on the side where an impact occurs. Standard side air bags
are housed within the outboard side of each front seat;
Trailer-sway control (TSC): Reduces trailer sway and improves handling in adverse towing
conditions caused by crosswinds and traffic. The system monitors the vehicle‟s movement relative to
the driver‟s intended path, then applies alternating brake pressure to slow the vehicle and then
increases the pressure on one front wheel in order to counteract the sway induced by the trailer.
Connectivity and Infotainment
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 features standard multimedia infotainment and navigation UConnect GPS
system with 6.5-inches touchscreen, 30 gigabyte hard disk, USB compatibility, AUX port, DVD video and
voice activated Bluethooth UConnect Phone with integrated microphone in the rearview mirror.
Part of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 standard equipment is a 825-watt, 19-speaker premium SRT
performance audio surround-sound system from Harman Kardon®. The system offers world premier
innovation, featuring a 32-volt TPS (Tracking Power Supply) 12-channel Class D amplifier that delivers
outstanding acoustics and brings multi-dimensional, quality sound for all interior occupants.

along with greater fuel efficiency over the previous 3.8-liter V-6 engine.
Additionally, for refined shifting and greater performance, Jeep Wrangler petrol models migrate from a four-
speed to a five-speed automatic transmission. The newest Jeep Wrangler also features the company‟s first
application of a manual transmission to the Pentastar V-6.
The Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited will continue to be available in three models for European
markets: Sport, Sahara and Rubicon. Combined with an all-new interior for 2011, the newest Jeep Wrangler
is virtually all-new over the past year and will excite core Jeep followers while appealing to new customers.
3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 Engine
Compact and lightweight, the all-aluminum 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine is more than 40 kg (90 lbs) lighter
than the previous 3.8-liter V-6 engine that was constructed with a cast-iron block. The Pentastar engine is
extremely quiet, constructed with a high-pressure, die-cast aluminum block fitted with cast-iron bore liners
and aluminum cylinder heads. The engine also has been designed to meet all known future worldwide
emission standards and is currently Euro 5 certified.
The 3.6-liter V-6 engine is manufactured at the Trenton engine plant in Michigan (USA).
Transmissions
The A580 automatic transmission benefits Jeep Wrangler as much as the new petrol engine, with more
refined shifting and gear selection. By increasing the number of speeds, the transmission allows the engine
to operate in a more efficient RPM range, which helps increase fuel economy. More speeds also enable the
engine to remain in the torque curve, increasing acceleration. The new Wrangler (two-door) boasts a 37-
percent improvement in 0 – 100 km/h time, which is now 8.1 seconds. Also, a lower first-gear ratio in the new
automatic transmission gives the Wrangler more off-road capability via a lower overall crawl ratio.
Electronic Range Select is standard for all automatic-equipped Jeep Wrangler models. The electronic
stability control (ESC) also has been optimized to perform effortlessly with the new 3.6-liter V-6 engine.
Along with the proven NSG 370 six-speed manual transmission, engineered for the newest Jeep Wrangler
are a new clutch housing, flywheel and long-travel damper clutch. The improvements are a result of the
adaptation of the transmission to the 3.6-liter V-6 engine.
The five-speed automatic transmission is produced in Kokomo, Indiana (ITP2), and the six-speed manual
transmission is produced in Gaggenau, Germany.
Engineering
Jeep Wrangler delivers unmatched off-road capability with legendary four-wheel drive and is produced with
more than seven decades of 4x4 engineering experience behind it. Wrangler continues to offer a body-on-
frame design, front and rear five-link suspension system, live axles and electronic lockers.
Jeep Wrangler now offers a choice of two transmissions: a six-speed manual and a five-speed automatic
gearbox.
Along with a new powertrain, Jeep engineers have thoroughly optimized ride and sound characteristics of
the Jeep Wrangler‟s body-on-frame design. New motor and transmission adaptations and revised
suspension calibrations contribute to overall improvements that are immediately evident both on- and off-
road.
The interior sound quality is greatly improved through refinements in the powertrain mounting system, noise
damping in the firewall and the inclusion of the first Jeep Wrangler engine cover to effectively isolate the
cabin from noises emulating from the engine and road surfaces.
On the outside, engine noise is barely perceptible at idle. With the new 3.6-liter V-6 engine, all accessories
are mounted directly to the engine with no accessory brackets. This helps ensure that all accessories,
including the power steering pump, alternator and air conditioning compressor, are anchored firmly and less
susceptible to vibration and noise.
Shocks have also been retuned and are designed for optimum balance between advanced on-road handling
and rugged off-road capability.
Axles and Transfer Cases
The Jeep Wrangler is now available with more axle gear ratios, allowing customers to optimize fuel economy
and/or vehicle capability. Wrangler is available with 3.21, 3.73 or 4.10 ratios depending on model. Also,
Wrangler offers towing capability up to 2,500 kg.

The Rubicon model features heavy-duty Dana 44 front and rear axles and the Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed
transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio. Rubicon also includes electric front and rear locking

2.8-liter CRD Engine
The all-new 3.6-liter V-6 engine joins the new 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine with fuel-saving Stop/Start
technology. The diesel engine provides power of 200 hp DIN (147 kW), a 13-percent improvement over the
prior 2.8-liter diesel engine. Torque for the engine comes in at 410 N•m (302 lb-ft) with its six-speed manual
transmission and 460 N•m (339 lb-ft) with its five-speed automatic transmission.
Jeep Wrangler‟s diesel engine, when paired with the manual transmission, incorporates Stop/Start
technology – the first application of this technology on a Chrysler Group vehicle. Stop/Start improves fuel
efficiency and reduces CO2 emissions by managing the amount of time the engine runs. With Stop/Start, the
engine is shut off when the vehicle is stopped, the shift gear is in Neutral and the clutch is released. The
engine then restarts automatically when the clutch pedal is depressed. Drivers can deactivate the technology
via a button on the dashboard, and an icon displays in the instrument panel to indicate the Stop/Start status.
Jeep® Wrangler Arctic: the legend defines the myth
Jeep® Wrangler Arctic, featuring a unique winter-themed exterior and interior design, joins the Wrangler
model lineup. Wrangler special-edition models created in response to Jeep enthusiasts looking for factory-
customized vehicles. New Wrangler models include the all-new 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 petrol engine. Latest
special-edition Wrangler will arrive in Europe in the first quarter of 2012.
Building on the success of several recent special-edition Wrangler vehicles, the Jeep® brand is introducing
its latest model: the new Jeep Wrangler Arctic.
The rugged, extreme winter conditions of the arctic are the inspiration for the latest Jeep Wrangler model,
which will make its European debut at this year‟s Frankfurt Motor Show. With winter temperatures that can
reach -45°C and wind speeds that can exceed 160 kilometers per hour, the arctic is well known as one of the
most intense climates on Earth.
“There are few environments more grueling and demanding than the arctic, which is just the type of terrain
the legendary Jeep Wrangler was engineered to conquer,” said Mike Manley, President and CEO – Jeep
Brand and Chief Operating Officer Asia, Chrysler Group LLC. “Not only will the Jeep Wrangler Arctic appeal
to our loyal enthusiasts, but its unique content will attract new customers to the Jeep brand.”
Available for Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited, the new Arctic model arrives in European Jeep
showrooms in the first quarter of 2012. Jeep Wrangler Arctic will be powered by the all-new 3.6-liter V-6
petrol engine with the automatic five-speed transaxle and by the 2.8-liter turbo diesel paired to a six-speed
manual and five-speed automatic transmission

Jeep Wrangler Arctic also offers an aggressive Wrangler Rubicon tire and wheel package, with unique semi-
gloss black 17-inch wheels.
Inside, Jeep Wrangler Arctic‟s seats are black Tectonic fabric with Polar White accents and Arctic Orange
piping and accent stitching. Front seats are heated and feature an “Arctic” logo on the front seat backs.
Accent stitching can also be found on the steering wheel, armrests and console lid. Door trim and cargo nets
are accented in Arctic Orange, and all grab handles and dashboard vent rings are finished in Polar White
trim.
The “Arctic” logo adorns the tachometer, and Mopar tread-pattern slush mats with white “Jeep” lettering
complete the Wrangler Arctic package.

Chrysler Group‟s 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine – named to the prestigious U.S. automotive media outlet
Ward‟s “10 Best Engines” list – produces 284 horsepower DIN (209 kW) and 342 N•m (252 lb-ft) of torque,
delivering 42-percent more power, 9-percent more torque and up to a 5-percent improvement in combined
fuel consumption when compared to the previous 3.8-liter V-6 engine.
Additionally, for refined shifting and greater performance, Jeep Wrangler petrol models migrate from a four-
speed to a five-speed automatic transmission. The newest Wrangler also features the company‟s first
application of a manual transmission to the 3.6-liter V-6 engine.
Jeep continues to refine the successful Wrangler formula by combining legendary, benchmark capability with
an interior that delivers rich styling with significantly upgraded touch surfaces, occupant comfort and
versatility, and a premium appearance courtesy of a body-color hardtop for the popular Sahara model.
Jeep Wrangler interior highlights include a recently redesigned instrument panel and storage areas with
improved ergonomics and upgraded materials. A lockable console and upgraded door-armrest areas boast
comfortable touch points, while a redesigned center stack is easier to reach and operate. Many convenience
