Introduction

Wireless technology are commonly used in laptops, it eases communication and increases
mobility. In that sense, we try to develop a tool that uses WLAN ( wireless local area
network) and manage interactive classroom application. Although, most of the wireless
technologies are required to use other network infrastructures like wireless modem or some
wireless internet connection. All we need is a laptop with wireless Ethernet card (which
nearly all laptops have). Thus, we can increase mobility and usability. Our project is managed
like an ad-hoc network to provide high mobility and little complexity on communication.




Project Description

ICA project aims to implement a wireless network based interactive classroom tool for the
usage of both lecturers and the students. ICA allows lecturers to manage some basic
classroom activities such as taking attendance, making a quiz and sharing both the course
materials and the class notes. On the other hand, it provides environment for students to
take their exams on the computer, to obtain course related materials such as course plan,
syllabus, assignments and lecture notes and follow announcements, upcoming events.

ICA tool will be formed as two parts. There will be a lecturer interface and a student
interface of the application. Users will log in to the application with their registered accounts
and according to their roles interfaces will provide different capabilities.

ICA system will be used by a lecturer and all students in a class simultaneously. A Client-
Server like communication will be established between the users. In this schema lecturer will
be server and the students will be clients. Whole application and networking activities will
be implemented with Java.



Project Goals

The main goal is to ease classroom activities and use the time efficiently. System will
accelerate the communication in classroom and help both lecturers and students with their
jobs.

    The software’s interface is intended to be efficient and easy to use.
    Synchronization is important for the shared data.
    Examination module of the application will be concurrent.
    Automatic grading of the test exams would be provided.
    Will prevent students from share data among each other.
    Reliable attendance facility will be satisfied with the help of MAC addresses.
    Time restriction will put on examinations and this restriction will be controlled by our
       system automatically.



Requirements

Hardware Requirements

In view of the fact that our program will be working on students’ and instructor’s computers,
it is going to necessitate lap-tops with wireless ethernet cards with built-in radio supporting
IEEE 802.11 standards. Also, all lap-tops must be good enough to bear software
requirements.

Software Requirements
Our program will be implemented on Java. Therefore, host systems should have Java
Runtime Environment installed.




Future Considerations

We consider that there could be multi-sharing file which is concurrently written by lecturer
and students can see this file at the same time. For example, lecturer solve a problem in his
touch screen, thus students can follow solution from their lap-top while lecturer is solving.
