Executive Summary
The No Exceptions Strategy Vision is “All people participating in the physical recreation and sport activities
of their choice.

Outlined in this document are the strategic outcomes that will deliver the No Exceptions Vision for snow
sports in New Zealand via Snow Sports NZ No Exceptions Strategic Intent, “Snow Sports for All – ensuring
that all New Zealanders have access to experience the freedom of snow sports.” Previous work to promote
access for people with disabilities to snow sports was performed by Disabled Snowsports NZ. Disabled
Snowsports is in a transition stage of integration into Snow Sports NZ. Also outlined in this report are the
strategic initiatives, activities and programmes that Snow Sports NZ will perform under its No Exceptions
Vision.

Snow Sports NZ will engage a No Exceptions Officer to advocate the No Exceptions Policy in particular
   Ø    recognition of disability issues,
   Ø    accessibility within the snow sports industry,
   Ø    enhancing Snow Sports for All,
   Ø    ensuring more adaptive snow sports opportunities are available.

SPARC’s support, expertise and resources are an integral part of the successful delivery of Snow Sport’s
NZ No Exceptions Policy. Funding support of $30,000 ongoing for two years is requested.
Introduction
Snow Sports NZ is the National Sport Organisation for Snow Sports. Currently all the different codes of the
sport are integrating, under the umbrella body of Snow Sports NZ, including Freeski NZ, NZ Ski Racing, NZ
Snowboard Assoc, Disabled Snowsports NZ, NZ Cross Country and NZ Ski Assoc, to form an operational and
management structure to path the way forward for snow sports in New Zealand. All will benefit through
focusing and synergising energies.

This is a unique opportunity to include No Exceptions as part of as part of SSNZ philosophy and across all
aspects of our business with the support and leadership from Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC).
No Exceptions is the Strategy and Implementation Plan of SPARC, guided by the New Zealand Disability
Strategy, to ensure people with disabilities can access sport and to encourage participation of disabled
people in sport and recreation. Snow Sports NZ has embraced No Exceptions with a strategy and actions
to implement these.

Outlined in this document is Snow Sports NZ’s Exceptions Strategic Intent and Philosophy, with support
information on the history and background to adaptive snow sports in New Zealand and Internationally.

Snow Sports NZ has developed a number of strategic outcomes, which are tabled alongside strategic
initiatives and desired activities to undertake from 2008 – 2010. The immediate activity is integration of
Disabled Snowsports into Snow Sports NZ. Listed in the appendix are a number of existing programmes
and initiatives that will be integrated into Snow Sports NZ under the No Exception Framework.
