UK & International Distributor Manager
April 2007 to Present.
A leading medical devices company who are one of the primary suppliers to the NHS. Products include
medical IPE including gloves and clothing, wound care, procedure packs, continence care, pulped paper
products, medical disposables, laboratory disposables, and general consumables. Product ranges also cover
industrial IPE/PPE. Primary market sectors include NHS, private hospitals, dental, universities, care homes,
pharmaceuticals, biotech, veterinary, personal care, cosmetics, with secondary market sectors including food,
beverage, chemicals, motor factors, engineering etc.
Reporting to the Group MD & Chairman, I am a member of the senior management team and I am responsible
for running the global medical sales and distribution division. This includes responsibility for all UK medical
distributors outside of the NHS as well as global distribution covering all medical and industrial sectors outside
the UK. The role encompasses divisional management, people management, bids/tender management, direct
sales, global product sourcing, international freight/logistics, budgetary, forecasting and P&L responsibility.
Within this role I am responsible for setting and implementing global sales strategy, coordinating global

Sales & Marketing Director

Breconcherry, a subsidiary of the Samuel Hodge Group (marine oil & water separation, marine & industrial
cleaning, shot blasting, brewing, pumps, peristaltic pumps, valves, CIP, aerospace, defence, software,
hardware, sensors, chemicals, extraction fans, actuators etc), specialises in manufacturing standard and
bespoke engineering solutions. Primary applications provide environmental and financial solutions (Hardware
& software based) for optimising fluid handling systems, which in turn optimise the entire process system,
delivering significantly reduced manufacturing costs, down times, and turn around times. This concept
ultimately increases the client’s competitive advantage.
The diverse customer base covers primary business sectors such as OEM’s, pharmaceutical, cosmetics,
personal care, food, beverage, brewing/wine, chemicals, oil, gas, waste water, transportation (marine, rail &

I joined Breconcherry as Distributor Manger/Export Manager. After two very successful years I became Sales
& Marketing Director with board membership. Reporting to the MD, and on occasion acting as the MD’s
designate reporting to the group CEO. After four and a half years I had doubled export sales, increased the
global market share, and re branded, creating a global uniform brand. Creating a solution sales environment,
as well as understanding multi cultural sales channels were key elements of this position from day one.
I was responsible for setting and implementing global sales strategy, coordinating global marketing, appointing
agents/distributors, as well as training and motivation of the distributor network and presenting at international
conferences & seminars. The role also included global sourcing and international logistics.

Implemented state of the art multi camera video testing facility with full network integration, web

Sales Manager – UK & Ireland + GCAM
April 2001 to March 2002 - Celsis Ltd (www.celsis.com), Cambridge.
Celsis, a world leading provider of rapid diagnostic systems and analytical laboratory services, selling capital
equipment, software, reagents, consumables, laboratory and consultation services (approx 33 million turn
over). The company specialises in detecting microbial contamination, reducing product failure and shortening
product to market times. Industry coverage is wide, including the bio terrorism, defence, pharmaceutical,
medical, healthcare, biopharmaceutical, personal care, brewing, dairy, food and beverage sectors. Celsis also
had a range of rapid testing hygiene monitoring equipment available through a range of commercial channels.
I joined Celsis as UK & Ireland Sales Manager (reporting to the European General Manager), and quickly
became involved in GCAM (Global Corporate Account Management). The role comprised of international
marketing, sales team management, new business development (Capital equipment, consumables, reagents)
in the UK and Ireland with global account management in Denmark, Poland and Scandinavia. Some input into
the technical and financial training for the European sales team was undertaken. I was also responsible for the
UK & Ireland service/technical support operation, as well as running technical seminars in the UK & Ireland.
Recruit and train a new UK team during a very challenging time for the company.

March 1997 to March 2001 - Immuno Diagnostics Systems Ltd (www.IDSLTD.com), Tyne & Wear.
IDS are one of the world leaders in specialist diagnostic immuno-assay reagents, capital equipments and
technical solutions. Their product fields cover clinical and research applications including, bone & mineral,
Auto Immune, cytokine & adhesion molecules, diabetes, endocrinology, growth, osteoporosis, infectious
diseases, inflammatory disorders, histology, tumour markers, cytology, pre clinical, animal and veterinary as
well as simple OTC style testing kits. Customers include, NHS hospitals, private hospitals & labs, healthcare
sector, drug discovery, global research/pharmaceutical organisations and life sciences, including GSK, Pfizer,
Astra, St Barts, Royal Free, Royal London, Royal Vet College, Cambridge/Oxford & most other universities etc
Regional Manager for the south of UK, reporting to the UK Sales & marketing manager. The territory was run
as a small business unit with, giving me responsibility for direct sales, sales margins, sales and marketing
budgets and profitability forecasts within the regional area. The sales process involved working with leading
scientists and clinicians and was very consultative in nature.

World leading supplier of laboratory & healthcare consumables and small capital equipment items including
blood collection devices, medical devices, theatre devices, infusion sets, pipettes, test tubes, tissue culture,
centrifuges, mixers, shakers, heating blocks, automated sample prep, chromatography, and electrophoresis.
My first field sales position, allowing me to gain a broader experience of the commercial world. I worked in two
of the internal divisions (capital equipment and consumables), and achieved top salesman status on both
divisions almost every month in my final year.
IT Manager & Internal Sales & Marketing Person
1992 to 1995 - SCL Bioscience Services, Cambridge
SCL were the UK laboratory division of Serono Pharmaceuticals. They specialised in IVF (Bourne Hall Clinic),
clinical trials (Phase I, II, III and IV), endocrinology, veterinary diagnostics, and other diagnostic techniques
including elisa/microplate, RIA, chemiluminesence, titration, colourific, mass spec, gas chromatography and
automated analysers etc. SCL offered a semi “by appointment” testing/diagnostic service to special foreign
clients as well.
I joined SCL as a laboratory Technician performing routine endocrinology research and laboratory duties,
before gaining promotion to IT manager, where I became responsible for staff training, SOP writing as well as
setting up and running the internal IT systems. I progressed into an internal sales and marketing position
where I was responsible for basic marketing and promotional (brochures, Posters, Flyers and direct mail)
activities, as well as some external client liaison and some very basic sales activates.
World Leading CRO
March 1988 to 1992 - Research Laboratories
World leading (CRO) contract research organisation conducting pharmacology and toxicology studies as well
as pre clinical trials.
Respiratory & Environmental Physiology research and testing including data validation, analytical procedures,
and statistics. The nature of the research involved designing and setting up test systems, test atmosphere
generation (e.g. nebulisation) as well as chemical reception, handling stock control and appropriate disposal.
1987 – 1988 - Royal Engineers, followed by approx 15 years service in the TA.
1988 – 2004 Reserve Forces - This included over ten years in military Intelligence.
Specialist in UAV’s, airborne reconnaissance, imagery acquisition, processing and interpretation, digital
