Following expansion at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30.38% between 2006-10, the water
infrastructure in Colombia reached a value of US$507.3 million in 2010, which represented an increase of 7.5%
on 2009. The market achieved its strongest performance in 2007 with a growth of 73.6% over its previous year
and its weakest performance was witnessed in 2010, when it increased to 7.5% over 2009.
The water infrastructure was the fastest growing construction sector in the infrastructure construction market
between 2006-10 and achieved a CAGR of 30.38%. The weakest performer was energy & communications
infrastructure, which achieved only a CAGR of 4.35%.
By 2010, the water infrastructure accounted for 4.7% of the infrastructure construction market. In comparison,
road infrastructure represented 51.0% share, while other infrastructure projects generated a further 31.7% of
the market's 2010 share.
Looking ahead, the water infrastructure is expected to expand at a CAGR of 7.21% between 2010-15, reaching
a value of US$718.5 million in 2015. This represents a total growth of 309.2% from 2006 and 41.6% from 2010.
In comparison, the fastest growing construction sector of the infrastructure construction market between 2010-
15 is expected to be road infrastructure, which is predicted to achieve a CAGR of 7.52%. The weakest
performer is expected to be other infrastructure projects, which is forecast to achieve a CAGR of 5.95%.
By 2015, the water infrastructure is forecast to account for 4.7% of the infrastructure construction market. In
comparison, road infrastructure is predicted to account for 52.5%, while other infrastructure projects is expected
to generate a further 30.3% of the market's 2015 share.
