Brewers concentrate on off-premise consumption with new packaging and promotions

In 2010 there was again a trend to shift from on-premise beer consumption to the more competitively priced
off-premise beer. There were strong economic reasons behind this trend as happened in 2009.

With large modern retailers becoming stronger in numerical terms and consumers oriented to off-premise
spending, brewers were obliged to focus product development and innovation on the off-premise market. They
did this mainly by introducing new packaging elements (sizes, caps and materials), by upgrading multipack
secondary packaging and all brewers redesigned their 4x, 6x board bundles to catch consumers’ attention with
seasonal promotions, etc.
