Another tough year for the Norwegian beer market…
The beer market declined by 3% in 2010 as a result of poor summer weather and the rise in excise duty
leading to higher retail prices. Not even the TV coverage of the FIFA World Cup in football could give a boost
to beer consumption during the summer months. Consumption through Horeca channels continued to suffer
as consumers deterred by high bar prices preferred to buy from supermarkets and consume at home.
…but some innovation at the top end and bottom end of beer market….
2010 saw innovation at the top end of the market with the launch of a number of superpremium priced
international beer brands. Ringnes AS introduced Kronenbourg 1664 from France in 33cl refillable glass bottle.
Also a range of beer from Carlsberg’s Jacobsen stable was also launched in 33cl non-refillable glass bottle
including Jacobsen Saaz Blonde. Jacobsen Extra Pilsner and Jacobsen Dark Lager
At the bottom end of the market the Private Label producer Grans introduced a range of beers under the
Grans Lade Gaards brand in 50cl glass bottles. Pri
