Contents Beer Service/Jun-11 1 Contents 2 Beer Service/Jun-11 Executive Summary Beer Service/Jun-11 1 Mexico beer consumption drops Sales of beer in Mexico decreased 1% in 2010, mainly due to a delayed 2008-2009 worldwide economic downward trend, national insecurity issues and adverse weather conditions. Both key players, Grupo Modelo and Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma lost ground, by 1% in both cases. Annual consumption per capita decreased (of the legal drinking age population). Regionally speaking, the north and south regions lost volume, despite both producers’ efforts to push consumption. The decline in the north was due to security issues and the south was hit by unexpected rain, floods and the strike at Grupo Modelo’s facility that reduced regional supply. A slowdown in consumption was seen in the first few months due to price increases caused by a tax increase. Unusually bad weather conditions during 2010 Strong floods in the northern states were recorded in July
