According to the American Social Health Organization, there are approximately 18.9 million new STD cases, excluding HIV, that occur every year in the U.S. More than half of all people in the world will be infected with an STD at one point in their life. However, only a handful of them will get a STD Test. STD Testing is important to ensure there are no infections present and that you do not pass on the disease to others.
Frequently, there are no symptoms that manifest when you have a STD. If symptoms are present STD Testing at STD clinics is recommended. If they do appear, symptoms may include one or more of the following: Bumps, sores or warts near the mouth, anus, or genitals, swelling or redness near the genitals, skin rash, painful urination, weight loss, loose stools, and night sweats.
Because STDs are usually asymptomatic, do not assume that you or your partner is not infected just because you do not show any symptoms. An STD can be present for years before they become symptomatic and by then the STD has already progressed, so the only way to know for sure if you or your partner has an STD is to get an STD test.
STD testing done on the same day is a very simple process. When you call an STD Clinic, you will anonymously speak to one of their experienced STD testing counsellors about your symptoms and other concerns. They will ask you questions about your risk factors and other pertinent information.
