Learn about the enhanced backup and restore options for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Topics include the multi- level Recycle
Bin, the new browser-based user interface, and new options for the command line (stsadm.exe) interface.

Exercise 1 – Multi-level Recycle Bin Global Settings
A quick overview of the settings available in the Central Administration for the
Multi-level Recycle Bin.
Login using the following credentials:

Open Int ernet Explorer and click on the Central Administration link in the
Administration folder under Favorites in the Internet Explorer menu.
The Central Administration page will open, and you should click on the
Application Management tab near the upper left hand corner of the page.

page to view the Recycle Bin Settings.

live on the items in a sites Recycle Bin before it is deleted.
o Second stage Recycle bin: The second stage Recycle Bin is an
administrative Recycle Bin for items that have been cleared from
the User-level Recycle bin. The settings here allow you to eit her

Exercise 2 – End user Recycle Bin
This exercise will take you through the end user Recycle Bin. The scenario
in this exercise involves a project manager trying to setup a site that will help
organize Lit ware’s ability to collect requirements from its customers.

sure you wish to delete Contoso, click Ok to continue.
Click on the checkbox next to the Specification Review item to select it, and
then click on the Re store Selection button; a dialog box will appear asking if
you are sure you want to restore the Specification Review, click Ok to continue.
Click on the Home tab to verify that the Specification Review has returned to
the Tasks list.
Exercise 3 – Site Collection Recycle Bin
This exercise will highlight the Site Collection Recycle Bin and how it can be
used to restore items from the End user Recycle Bin and the Second stage
Recycle Bin. The scenario in this exercise involves a site collection
administrator in the Litware IT department that gets a call from a project
manager who has just delet ed a folder from his Recycle Bin and needs it
restored.

backup location textbox and click Ok to continue.

pick up status from the SharePoint Timer Service as your schedule d job is
executed. This can take some time to enter the queue, though the page will
begin to display status. The backup process can take several minutes to
complete successfully. You must wait until the phase is listed as “completed”
before moving on to the next exercise.

To perform an export of the Litware portal site collection y ou would enter the

stsadm -o export -url http://moss.litwareinc.com/export -filename export.cmp
Note: If the filename does not end with .cmp then it will have .cmp
appended to it

exists.
o –includeusersecurity: Used to include the item level permissions
and site membership in the export CMP file.
o –haltonwarning: Used to stop the export process if a warning is
encountered.
o –haltonfatalerror: Used to stop the export proc ess if an error is
encountered.
o –versions: This determines the number of versions exported in the

file.
o –cabsize: Allows you to create CMP files of a cert ain size to split
them apart.
o –quiet: Only outputs warnings and errors and none of the standard
output from the export command.
In the command prompt type: copy export.cmp litware.cab
Then type: litware.cab and press Enter
A windows explorer window should have appeared showing the contents of the
exported site collection.
You can see that the CMP file contains several XML files which map files
exported to the DA T files that contain them as well as other required information
for the site.
o ExportSettings.xml contains the settings used to create the CMP
file.
o Requirements.xml contains the list of features that are required for
the site.
o UserGroup.xml contains the list of users invited to the site as well
as their Group membership for site roles.
Manifest.xml contains the mapping of all the files, folders and list items that
need to be created for the site. It is the representation of the exported data.
