EXPEDIA.CO.UK SIGNS DEAL WITH TELEWEST TO PROVIDE TRAVEL
SERVICES ON IT’S DIGITAL INTERACTIVE TV PLATFORM
Expedia.co.uk, Europe‟s number one travel service, announced today that it
has signed a deal with Telewest, the leading provider of broadband services
in the UK, to provide flights, hotel and car hire booking facilities on Telewest‟s
Digital Interactive TV service. Under the terms of the agreement
Expedia.co.uk will go live on the service in the autumn.
Telewest‟s Digital Interactive TV service launched in March 2000, allows
customers to take full advantage of services on the internet such as email,
home banking and shopping through their TV screens. The service has
already attracted over 156,000 subscribers throughout the country and is on
target to reach 500,000 by year end.
With the interactive TV market set to take off Expedia.co.uk recognises the
potential of this exciting medium to bring its product to a whole new customer
base. Consumers will now be able to choose the most convenient channel to
access Expedia.co.uk whether via their PC or on TV, to take control of their
