The Employment Committee, like the H&S Committee, meets three times a year, approximately 2 weeks after the H&S Committee. Also SMG (who should be consulted) meets at the end of the month . This will ensure all copies are completely up to date. Section headings will be reviewed prior to republication (see item 3 also). Revisions done are: Section 3.2 Display Screen Equipment Procedure + leaflet and forms Section 5.1 Minibus Driver Training Procedure – this will need to be revised in light of changes to Glos CC procedure. Section 3.6 Substance Abuse Policy (Students) Not necessary Section 3 could just be renamed ‘Staff & Students H&S’. Now the Staff Handbook has been published great care has to be taken to ensure that cross-referencing between that, the Personnel and the H&S Handbooks are consistent. (see item 2). This item to go to JCIG 30 October ’07 for a decision on whether this is necessary now the new Staff Handbook is available. Ongoing - HSWG monitors how the University H&S Policy is implemented at a local level & in Faculty handbooks. Initial work by the HSWG was completed in Apr 05. Policy is subject to work by other committees and will presumably return to the HSWG & PWG at some future date. Draft to be developed. Note this is not a PWG initiated item in the context of health & safety aspects and proposals need to be researched and presented by HSWG. 3. Death might be as a result of natural causes, work-related accident, incident. Appendices to provide notification procedures in addition to RIDDOR arrangements for students and for staff. NON-JOINT ITEMS 10. Stress Risk Assessments and other matters Development of activity and programmes including proactive health campaigns ongoing n/a n/a n/a Stress Risk Assessment completed – proactive health campaigns being done Follows on from the revised Stress Management Framework & Policy. Other matters include how best to ensure the policy is applied effectively and work to support carers in the university on stress and lifestyle management to complement PWG work on formal Career arrangements. To be revised in light of findings of 2007 Staff Perception Survey Complete – to H&S Committee in Oct 2007 This was awaiting introduction of new fire legislation on 1 October 2006, and new guidance from the DCLG. Will require consultation with Disability Advisers and Campus Management. Links with item 14 below. Awaiting discussions with new Director of Estates as these procedures relate to the management of civil building works. Procedures for new projects, processes and equipment Review HSWG Target HSWG/PWG Target HSC Target EC n/a Notes To be discussed at Oct 07 meeting of the H&S Committee. Item is associated with the requirement for environmental issues to be considered in the planning process for new projects, processes and equipment. H&S issues should also be considered and this will be done through the normal work of the H&S Committee. These procedure will probably be part of the Procurement Manual. Complete – protocol agreed at May 2007 meeting of the H&S Committee A simple procedure is required regarding room capacities and procedure to be followed if these are exceeded. Links with 11 above (i.e. new guidance and fire Risk Assessments) A formal audit can now be undertaken following introduction of the new sector-wide auditing package, HASMAP, in Spring ’07.
