IMPACT REPORT CANADA
Mission
Dear Friends With your generous support the Sodexo Foundation continues to be a driving force in the fight against hunger. While we have increased our overall contributions towards key STOP Hunger programs, as a country we are facing some of the direst economic times in several decades. As the recession worsens, so do the challenges for many of our neighbours and fellow citizens. We have accomplished many things together, yet there is clearly so much more to be done. Freedom from hunger is a basic human right and essential to building a better quality of life. In the communities we serve, an estimated 5.5 million people are at risk of hunger every day, most of them children and the elderly. As a leading food and facilities management firm, we are committed to helping combat the problem of hunger with a wide range of programs providing hunger relief to those in need. We have made fighting hunger the central focus of all of our community service efforts.
In the following pages we’ll share with you some of the highlights from our collective efforts during 2008. Thank you to all of our employees, volunteers, clients, business partners, recovery agencies and food banks who continue to support the fight against hunger. After all, solving hunger is feeding our future. Best regards Jon Kristjanson Executive Director Sodexo Foundation

Programs
Servathon (April)
Servathon is about mobilizing people. Each April is devoted to fighting hunger by asking Sodexo employees to join forces to raise awareness about hunger through various activities such as fundraising, food donations, or serving meals in the local communities. Servathon is a simple yet effective way to create awareness for the plight of the hungry, as well as to provide a team-building experience for employees. These unique 30 days of activity go a long way to raise awareness of the problem of hunger. In April 2008, Sodexo employees served close to 300 free meals, collected 3500 kgs of non-perishable products and donated $7,000 to local hunger-related organizations across the country.
Feeding Our Future® (July-August)
2008 celebrated the 9th season of Feeding Our Future® in Canada. This year, eight sites across Canada produced over 100,000 free meals for at risk children and youth. Hamilton’s Mission Services was added to the existing cities of Vancouver (Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Greater Vancouver), Calgary (Community Kitchens of Calgary), Toronto (Second Harvest), Ottawa (Ottawa Food Bank), Montreal (Moisson Montréal), Halifax (Feed Nova Scotia) and Winnipeg (Winnipeg Harvest). To date, over 400,000 lunches have been prepared and delivered by volunteers throughout these eight cities. Sodexo recognizes our partnership with Chef Michael Smith and Isabelle Huot, RD as spokespeople for Feeding our Future®. We thank our client partners for the use of their facilities: George Pearson Centre, Trinity Western University, Mount Royal College, Balmoral Hall School, Department of Agriculture, Recreation Association, Collège Jean De Brebeuf, Dalhousie Student Union.

Heroes of Every Day Life (Annually)
The Sodexo Foundation Heroes of Every Day Life program honours Sodexo employees who devote time, talent, and service spirit to help people who suffer from hunger in their communities. Heroes are nominated by colleagues or friends and are recognized during the annual Sodexo Foundation Dinner. To honour our heroes’ efforts, the Sodexo Foundation makes donations to local hunger-related charities of their choice. Sodexo commends past recipients: Kathy Jocelyn (Winnipeg), Suman Roy (Toronto), Vincent Meehan (Burlington), Jon Kristjanson (Burlington); along with our 2008 Heroes: Les Gilholme (Wolfville) and Darlene Russell (Fredericton) and our 2008 Spirit of Caring Recipients: Robert Gendron (Ottawa) and Raymond Lee (Burlington).
Food Donations (on-going)
Sodexo continues to make a difference each day as one of the largest donors of surplus perishable and non-perishable food to recovery agencies. We strongly encourage each of our 6,000 locations to “recycle” surplus food by donating to local food recovery partners supported by the Sodexo Foundation.
