EARS Australia wins Award at National Safe Work Australia Awards

Victorian organisation EARS Australia won Best Solution to an Identified
Workplace Health and Safety Issue at the national 2007 Safe Work Australia
Awards held on 28 April 2008 at Parliament House in Canberra.

The Safe Work Australia Awards are an initiative of the Australian Safety and
Compensation Council (ASCC) and were presented by the Hon Julia Gillard
MP, Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations and Mr Bill Scales AO,
Chairman of the ASCC at a ceremony attended by more than 280 people.

EARS Australia’s winning entry, Exhaust Air Recycling System, beat seven
other finalists in this category, who were all winners of their jurisdictional
awards.

This award recognises excellence in developing and implementing a solution to
an identified workplace health and safety issue. EARS Australia designed and
developed a revolutionary Exhaust Air Recycling System that recycles exhaust
air from pneumatic tools back through the compressor instead of being
discharged into the working environment.

The result is a dramatic reduction in noise level, reduced vibration, improved
efficiency, capture of airborne contaminants generated by the tool’s operation
and lower operating costs.

The system addresses the occupational health and safety (OHS) issues of
deafness, respiratory complaint and manual handling while gaining efficiency
and reducing environmental impact.

“This innovation has made a dramatic impact to both their workplace and
others as it is one of a kind OHS initiative that can be retro-fitted to different
workplaces and has real workplace safety benefits,” said Mr Scales.

“The calibre of Victorian nominations represented in this year’s Awards was
outstanding.
“Organisations that win an award can be very proud of this national recognition
of their efforts.

“I congratulate EARS Australia for their outstanding commitment to improving
occupational health and safety in their workplace as well as others.

“The Safe Work Australia Awards recognise excellence in OHS and are the
premier national safety awards in Australia.”

The Awards are a key initiative of the ASCC.

Safe Work Australia Week, to be held from 19 - 25 October 2008, is another
ASCC initiative which asks employers and employees to focus on safety in the
workplace and foster a safe and healthy workplace culture.
