Overview:
Students will interact with a power point that will show examples of multimedia.

Standards
NETS 1: Basic Concepts and Operations
_____2.1.3 explain multimedia (combination of visual and audio/video)
_____2.1.4 identify examples of multimedia presented via computer

Learning Objectives:
 Students will be able to explain what multimedia is and to recognize examples of text, graphic,
sound, animation, and video.

Technology Components:
SmartBoard, projector, screen, laptop, cart. Access to internet or a copy of the “What is
Multimedia?’ powerpoint . http://www.marwoodweb.org/Multimedia.ppt

Materials:
SmartBoard, projector, screen, laptop, cart. Access to internet or a copy of the “What is
Multimedia?’ powerpoint . http://www.marwoodweb.org/Multimedia.ppt


Prep for Teachers:
SmartBoard, a projector, screen, laptop, and cart will be reserved.
Joyce Wade & I(or Danny) will do the first lesson together. Then Joyce will do the lessons on
her own.

Introductory Activity
Students will use the Smart Board to interact with the “What is Multimedia?” PowerPoint
program . http://www.marwoodweb.org/Multimedia.ppt
Learning Activities
   1. Students will be asked to volunteer to come up and touch the PowerPoint activity on the
      Smart Board to get the PowerPoint show each example of text.
   2. Students will be asked to volunteer to come up and touch the PowerPoint activity on the
      Smart Board to get the PowerPoint show each example of a graphic.
   3. Students will be asked to volunteer to come up and touch the PowerPoint activity on the
      Smart Board to get the PowerPoint show each example of sound.
   4. Students will be asked to volunteer to come up and touch the PowerPoint activity on the
      Smart Board to get the PowerPoint show each example of animation.
   5. Students will be asked to volunteer to come up and touch the PowerPoint activity on the
      Smart Board to get the PowerPoint show each example of video.

Assessment
Informal - Students will be observed as the whether they understand what multimedia is.

Culminating Activity
A simple review having students name the different types of multimedia.

Cross-Curricular Extensions
This activity could precede other computer lab activities

Adaptations
This lesson could be used with first graders.
