Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
PASTOR’S CORNER:
Jesus introduces a new element into His “Bread of Life” discourse. He equates
the bread of life with His flesh, the flesh that He will give for the life of the
world. Jesus’ choice of words is deliberate, for it makes crystal clear the meaning
of his discourse. After all, the term “bread of life” could easily be interpreted as
a metaphor for his teaching. One could easily come to the conclusion that the

phrase “bread of life” referred simply to his verbal instruction.
Jesus clearly intends the phrase “bread of life” to have a much more particular
meaning. In fact, he identifies the phrase with His flesh, His corporeal flesh and blood.
When He says that His flesh will be given for the life of the world, Jesus is referring to
His body being nailed to the cross, His blood being poured out in the perfect sacrifice of
Calvary. There can be no doubt that these powerful words point both to His sacrificial
death and to the Holy Eucharist, the means by which His sacrifice would be represented
on altars around the world until He comes in glory.
MINISTRY FAIR
On the 15th and 16th of August the parish Ministry Fair will take place. I urge all those
who are not in Ministry yet to consider answering the call to Ministry. The good Lord
says to you: the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few: so He looks up to you to
help Him, carry out what He cannot physically do now, but He will do it through you.
RE 2009/2010
Registration for the 2009/2010 school year of Religious Education will be held on the
weekends of Aug 8th & 9th, 15th & 16th and 22nd & 23rd.Forms are available on
registration table in back of church. Baptismal certificates are needed to complete
registration on new students. The cost is $15.00 per child. For additional information

Sept 9th @ 6:30 pm. Additional information and Parent meeting schedules will follow. If

thank all who helped and participated. Sara plans to keep Santa Rosa informed on her
NET Ministry activities. We appreciate everything you have done. Keep her in your
prayers as she will be praying for Santa Rosa, also.
WOMEN’S ACTS REUNION
The Santa Rosa Women’s ACTS Retreat will have a reunion on Sunday, August 16th. Mass
will be at 10:30 a.m. and then come together to break bread and join in fellowship at Carr

SANTA ROSA FALL FESTIVAL: The Santa Rosa Fall Festival is scheduled for Sunday,
October 25th. The festival will start at 11AM and the fun and fellowship will continue
until 5 PM. After the festival closes, the fun will continue with the Knights of Columbus
offering bingo in Carr Hall. Please call Carl or Valerie Zimmerman at (254) 793-2251 with

FALL FESTIVAL PLANNING TEAM NEEDS YOUR HELP: The Fall Festival Planning
Committee needs your help to make this major parish event a success. Please share your

Santa Rosa will be having their first youth mass on Sun Aug 30th at 6pm. We are looking

THE CARING PLACE
Thank you Santa Rosa for the 169.5 lbs. of food donated in July to The Caring Place. It
was much appreciated as the Pantry Shelves have been almost bare these past few
weeks.Canned meats, chicken, tuna, salmon and dry beans as well as canned vegetables
and fruit areneeded. In addition, dry boxed meals (tuna and hamburger helpers and
pasta meals) plus spaghetti (dry and canned), rice and macaroni and cheese are always in
demand. Canned soups, condiments, sauces, breakfast items including fruit juices, tea
