Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ July 12, 2009
Name one way in which you can preach the Good News every day.

Pope Benedict XVI has declared June 2009 to June 2010 as the Year for Priests. The theme for the
priestly year is "Faithfulness of Christ, Faithfulness of priests." Its purpose is to encourage what the Pope
calls "the yearning for spiritual perfection" in priests.
The Year for Priests coincides with the 150th anniversary of the death of St John Vianney a 19th century
parish priest who transformed lives through his examples of holiness, his celebration of the Mass, his
teachings, and his ability to touch people's souls in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
St John Vianney described priesthood in this way, " The priest in not a priest for himself; he does not give
himself absolution; he does not administer the Sacraments to himself. He is not for himself, he is for
you....The priesthood is the love of the Heart of Jesus."
I have been here for one year now, and I really feel accepted and supported by all the
wonderful people of this parish. Thank you for a great year and I look forward to many
years as your pastor. May God bless you and your families.
                                                                     Peace, Fr. Bob Harris

                                           NEW BULLETIN TIDBITS
Beginning the weekend of September 13th, our bulletin will be printed by Liturgical Publications, Inc. Why?...
For one thing, there’s the big old workhorse of a printer that labors each week to produce those pages that tell
when you Lector, the time of your favorite Bible Study, or about upcoming events. It demands being fed two
reams of 11x17 paper and a tall drink of ink to satisfy it’s hunger and thirst when it prints the bulletins. To top it
off, the parish has to pay the copier company for eight pages for each bulletin printed. 8 x 500 bulletins = $$$
One day, several weeks ago, I informed Fr. Harris that he had another funeral...our large printer had to be put
down. As I wiped away a tear, I had memories of all those nights I fought with it until 10 or 11 pm to get the
bulletins printed so the volunteers could do the inserts on Friday morning. Or, even better, what about the four
hours it took me to print the Easter bulletins in color, because “it really wasn’t
meant to do much color,” the repairman told us. There was a smile on my face
when they rolled the old workhorse out a day or two later. Yes, we did get a free
replacement due to our maintenance contract, but what about the temperament
of the new beast?
We puzzled the best way to continue our bulletin communication. Our research
uncovered some very interesting facts as we poured over actual copies from other
parishes. We loved the spot color throughout and the crisp, clear photos and
print. We could hardly believe that there would be no cost to the parish.
For years, all but two of the parishes in the Des Moines area have had their
bulletins printed by Liturgical Publications, Inc. Now, there will be only one.
