Why you don’t need a high PR!
INTRODUCTION
If you own your own web site, and I was a betting man, I’d wager that there’s a better than fair chance that your life is ruled by that little green coloured bar which shows the page rank attributed to your site by the mighty Google. Nothing else matters to you other than making that little green line move further and further towards the right. Because the further it does, the higher your page rank (PR) becomes which means an automatic flood of traffic for you. You’re absolutely driven to distraction if you’re approached for a link exchange by a fellow web site owner with a lower PR than you. How could that person have the bare faced gall to ask you for a link exchange. Don’t they understand that if you do accept that link trade with the PR1 site your PR 3 will instantly plummet and you’ll be punished forever! If that person is you, lighten up! You’re suffering from Page Rank Paranoia. Burt don’t worry – this humble ebook might just cure you. There’s way more to running a successful web site than watching that little green bar. I’m going to show you why your PR does not matter that much in the great scheme of things when it comes to web site promotion and attracting traffic to your web site. A whopping super-duper stellar PR is absolutely no guarantee of an untouchable search engine ranking. Amongst other things in this ebook you’ll learn how I have a number of web sites each of which (at time of writing) are ranked #1 on Google for particular search terms and none of my sites have a PR higher than 3. And I’ll give you the exact step-by-step method I used to take those web site to a #1 ranking without catching “Page Rank Paranoia.” This has allowed me the opportunity to gain traffic and build niche mailing lists without getting all bent out of shape about my PR. I’m cured from Page Rank Paranoia – would you like to be too? Right – let’s move on…………first, just how do Google calculate your PR and make that little green bar move ever more progressively to the right (or left – PR can go down as well as up!).

PAGE RANK PARANOIA
Why you don’t need a high PR!
WHAT IS GOOGLE PAGE RANK?
In very basic terms, your page rank is calculated using (as well as other criteria) the page rank of other sites which link to your site. The page rank value depends on the PR value of the page the link comes from and the number of outbound links from that page. Many believe that the relationship between page rank levels is logarithmic and not linear. In other words a PR5 is not “worth” 25% more than a PR4 but could in fact be “worth” much more. Furthermore a page rank value is not just a number. It is a range of values. So not all PR5 ranked pages are equal. I could go in for pages and pages about the theories involved which go on to calculating your Google page rank. But I won’t. How boring would that be? Let’s face it – a hundred pages of theory won’t disguise the fact that the only people who really know are Google themselves. Sure – the page rank of your site is a factor in determining the search engine ranking of your web site but it’s not the only factor. And it’s certainly not the “oh my God be-all-and-end-all my life depends on it” criteria that many web site owners think it is. See – we’re back to Page Rank paranoia again……… Why dedicate your life to try and move from a PR3 to a PR4 when there are much more productive ways to promote your web site?

Why you don’t need a high PR!
“MY PR IS BIGGER THAN YOURS.”
So what! Do I look like I care? We all have to start somewhere. And with a new site, that’s right at the bottom. No PR at all. You approach site after site seeking those link exchanges. Barely anyone replies, and those who do gloat about their PR and how they couldn’t possibly exchange links with you because it will hurt their PR. Here are a few email exchanges I’ve had which illustrate the point. I’ve not inserted the entire emails to “protect the innocent” shall we say. ======================================================== Its not possible to add your site in xxxxxxx.com, the reason is that it’s our primary site. So we are unable to place your site on our primary site. We can place your link only on xxxxxxx.com as mentioned earlier. Please let us know if you are O.K with it. ======================================================== ======================================================== I am D**** and I am affiliated with the site xxxxxxx.net. I also work with a great site: xxxxxxx.com which has a PR7 and very interesting inside pages too. If you feel you can exchange links with me let us know, I will upload your link on my good PR link page in xxxxxx.net. In return, I expect a good PR link page from you...... ======================================================== ======================================== Yeah, I'm taking about a front page link exchange. But since your sites are PR 3 then I have offered 1 PR 4 in exchange to 2 PR 3. Be know that a link from a site PR 4 is more profitable then a link from a site rank 3 and that is why I have offered you 1 link from xxxxxxx.com ======================================== See the pattern here – do you think the webmasters above have Page Rank Paranoia? Ultimately, they refused link exchanges with my “humble” PR3 sites because I’m just not worthy enough – even though my poor little PR3 sites have a way higher search engine results ranking. A couple of my current PR3 sites were once PR4. Does it bother me? Absolutely not. Because they still attract good traffic, my niche mailing lists increase in size every day and that hasn’t been affected by the reduced PR. Next I’ll tell you about my “humble” PR3 sites and let you see the screen shots which show those sites in the #1 position for key word searches. In later chapters, I’ll tell you how I did it. And all without suffering from Page Rank Paranoia!

NUMBER 1 RANKING EXAMPLES
One of my hobbies is horse racing. I love it. A day at the races is one of life’s pleasures. You don’t need to go racing and gamble to have a great day out. I also like to play a little poker and blackjack. So I built a few web sites about my “recreational interests” and each of them, despite what many would consider a “poor” PR, is (at time of writing) ranked #1 for various search phrases. Here’s the proof why you don’t need a huge PR: Betfairtradingsoftware.co.uk – current PR2 If you’ve not heard of a betting exchange, you probably won’t know what this is all about. Betting exchange trading is a bit like share trading – it’s a fascinating subject. Check out the web site for a free report. See the screen shot below – my PR2 site has the number 1 search result for “Betfair trading software.”

Freepokerebook.co.uk – current PR3 I put this one together based on my enjoyment of playing poker. Tournament poker to be exact. Visitors can download a 22-chapter ebook I have written on tournament poker in return for opting-in to the accompanying mailing list. Another number 1 ranking. It’s also number 1 for “poker ebook” and brings in a steady flow of traffic (and list subscriptions) every day.

Perfectblackjack.co.uk – current PR3 In a similar way to the poker site, I put together another ebook based on blackjack strategy. It’s free to list subscribers. Number 1 again!
So – now you’ve seen the proof (I’ve got another one to show you yet though – over the page). Three web sites with fairly low PR but all with number 1 search rankings, a steady flow of targeted traffic from those search results and a constant stream of subscribers to each site’s mailing list. This obviously means I can communicate with my respective list subscribers, promote complimentary products to them which I believe they may be interested in etc. And because I have their permission to do so, there’s no danger of being labelled a “spammer.” We’ll look at the mailing list aspect in another chapter. Before that – another of my sites with a low PR but a number 1 search ranking. This one’s a good example of a particular niche. Next page………… ……….

Dogflatulence.com – current PR2 The domain name should give you a rather strong clue as to what this site is about…….I own racing greyhounds and the idea for dogflatulence.com was “inspired” by the son of a fellow owner at the kennels one day. I actually achieved a number 1 ranking on Google for this site within a very short space of time with the entire “promotional activity” being the submission of a free press release and article directory submissions. Here’s the screenshot:
But it didn’t stop there for dogflatulence.com. My (then) new web site without a PR has a high position on other search engines. Even one of the articles I compiled has a first page search engine listing (see the next page). Now – turn the page to see another screenshot………….

Right – a screenshot from Yahoo! Notice positions 4 and 6. Position 4 is actually an article I wrote and submitted to the directories and position 6 is good old dogflatulence.com. “Double bubble” – my site is on the first page and anyone reading the article will be able to visit the site via the link in my resource box in the article.
Dogflatulence.com, despite it’s “poor” PR attracts excellent targeted traffic and earns me Adsense income every single day without me having to suffer from “Page Rank Paranoia.” Writing the articles and submitting them to a few of the major article directories was much more fun and much less work that emailing site after site for a link exchange. And even then to get few replies but plenty of “knockbacks” because of the “paranoia” issue…………….! Unlike many web site owners, article directories do not have “Page Rank Paranoia” and don’t care about the PR of your site. Write a good quality article (very easy) and you’ll find it’s accepted.

STEP-BY-STEP ACTION PLAN
OK. You’ve read a little about the web sites with which I have gained #1 search engine positions while remaining free from “Page Rank paranoia.” Now I’ll show you exactly how I did it using the same methods and techniques for each site. I can’t promise it’ll work for you – but it has certainly worked for me. All I can suggest to you is that you give it a go. If you do, you will be able to promote your web sites effectively without getting all hung up in that “little green bar” and your PR – in my opinion, PR has way too much importance attached to it. Right – here’s my plan. I’ll keep it brief and “no waffle!” Step 1 – what interests you? If you’re to put together a web site I’ve found it helps to make one on a subject you are interested in. Make a quick list of subjects you do feel strongly about, have a hobby in etc. Then pick one to “go with.” Step 2 – get that domain name Register a suitable domain name for your web site project. In my experience, finding a domain name relevant to the web site project has been very important. For example freepokerebook.co.uk, betfairtradingsoftware.co.uk, dogflatulence.com. I register my domains through GoDaddy – extremely cost effective and a great service to boot! Step 3 – built that web site! I’ll assume you have at least basic web site skills and know how to put one together. However – a crucial aspect to building your site are the “meta tags” – simply bits of information hidden from your site visitors but read by the search engines and used by them to index and list your site with them. Use words and phrases which are of relevance to the subject of your web site. This can be a bit tricky – though there is an excellent (and free) tool which will automatically generate your “meta tags” for you. It’s called Metty.

Why you don’t need a high PR!
Step 4 – publish your web site on the internet Basically – get a hosting account and upload your new web site on to the internet. Very exciting! There are thousands of hosting companies out there all offering a mind-boggling variety of services. In my opinion, one of the best is Lunar Pages. You could also consider GoDaddy as they offer hosting as well as domain registration. But I also recommend Lunar Pages. Step 5 – make money from your web site There are many ways you can make money form your web site. What works for me is to write an ebook, seed that with appropriate affiliate links, make some of them “brandable” then give the ebook away to visitors if they sign up to my mailing list. I can then communicate with subscribers to my mailing list by for example sending them information and occasionally promoting products they may be interested in. Using the ebook I give away from freepokerebook.co.uk as a quick example: • I wrote the ebook based on my own poker playing experiences and knowledge. No fancy software was required. Just plain old Microsoft Word which I then converted in to a .pdf file Included in the ebook is a statement that the reader has give-away rights, meaning they may freely give the ebook away to their friends, from their web site etc. Contained within the ebook are selected adverts/offers from leading online poker rooms. If a reader joins one of those poker rooms directly from the ebook, I get a commission from that poker room. As an additional incentive to the reader, as well as give-away rights to the ebook, I have made some of the poker room links “brandable.” In other words the reader may insert their own affiliate link in to the ebook at that point. The idea being that they “brand” the ebook, give it away and do so with the opportunity to earn poker room commissions because they now have their affiliate link in the book. I have increased chances of commissions because some of my own affiliate links are still in there. A “win-win” scenario. Making an “brandable” ebook is very simple. All you need is a great piece of software which make it a total breeze. It’s called ViralPDF and I strongly suggest you use it to make your ebooks truly viral.

Finally for this example, I use a leading autoresponder service to capture subscribers to my mailing list. It really is outstanding – you get unlimited autoresponders and newsletters, email templates to help you and reliable delivery of your messages. I cannot recommend this service highly enough and it’s an essential requirement. Check it out for yourself.
And there you have a quick overview of the process. I could rattle on for many pages about the various elements of it all but will limit it to the few paragraphs above. But to “see it in action” for yourself why not visit http://www.freepokerebook.co.uk right now, subscribe to the mailing list and get your hands on the free poker ebook. You will then have a live example of a “brandable” ebook with give-away rights. You can brand it with your own affiliate links, give it away and (I hope) generate some extra income for yourself. And (I hope again) it gets your own “creative juices” flowing about how you can start to put together your own brandable ebooks – you have the “blueprint” for that contained in this ebook! Ooops – almost forgot – step 6. I’ll cover step 6 in a new chapter on the next page. Step 6 is actually ways I promote my web sites without falling victim to Page Rank Paranoia. I think that’s worthy of a separate chapter – don’t you?

Why you don’t need a high PR!
STEP 6 – WEB SITE PROMOTION AVOIDING PAGE RANK PARANOIA!
So now you’ve got your nice new web site on the internet. What next? Obviously you have to promote it to let people know it’s there! Approaching other web sites for link exchanges is the “traditional” method however because your site is still shiny and new you have no PR. The “kiss of death” in the eyes of many web site owners. Why? Because they live or die by their PR. They protect it with their lives. Flick back up to “My PR is Bigger Than Yours” and read those emails I received from people when approaching them for a link exchange to remind yourself. They suffer from Page Rank Paranoia, wouldn’t you agree? But you’re smarter than that – you know that PR isn’t the be-all-and-end-all of web site promotion. And you’re going to be free of Page Rank Paranoia. I know I am – I don’t suffer from it and there’s no reason why you should. Here’s how I start “from the bottom up” with a new web site. What you’ll read about now are the exact same methods I have used to promote my sites and gain those #1 rankings with nothing better than a PR3. I believe that using a domain name of relevance is of very strong importance as are highly relevant meta tags. We looked at this briefly in the previous chapter so won’t duplicate that here. OK – here’s the approach I take with a new site with regard to promotional activity. Article submission I write a few short articles and submit them to a bunch of the leading article directories. Each article contains a couple of lines at the end about my site and a link back to it. Now everyone who reads the article has the opportunity to visit the web site and learn more. This strategy also has other spin-offs. Other web site owners, ezine publishers etc may pick up the article and use it on their site, in their newsletter – and if they do the link back to my site remains so I pick up automatic traffic. For example see: http://www.ezinearticles.com http://www.goarticles.com http://www.isnare.com

PAGE RANK PARANOIA
Why you don’t need a high PR!
Press Releases In a similar way to article directories, submitting a press release about your site I have found can attract much traffic. The same principles apply and there are numerous free press release submission services on the internet. The one I use in particular is Press Box (http://www.pressbox.co.uk) Your article/press release submissions get search engine rankings of their own and show up in search results (see the screenshot back up earlier in this ebook for an actual example). So the more articles/press releases you submit the greater your chances of automatic traffic to your web site. And all the time the number of links back to your site is growing. The search engine pick up on this as they “spider” the web indexing sites. Thus, your new site will eventually gain a PR without you having to do too much. And submitting a few articles and press releases is way easier and less effort that emailing out for link exchanges. And if your experience matches mine, you’ll find that other site owners start approaching YOU for a link exchange because they’ve seen your site via an article, search engine or whatever. Of course you may accept or decline the link exchange but either way – your site is getting noticed. That should mean your mailing list is growing, your ebook is being passed around, the PR and you’re making money! Oh yeah – not forgetting your site’s PR. Again, base don my experiences of using the very methods I am sharing with you in this ebook, the PR of your site will increase automatically and you’ve not suffered from Page Rank Paranoia once! Leave that to the others – don’t catch it yourself. Promote your site efficiently and effectively without Page Rank Paranoia. Again – I have followed exactly the steps I have shared with you in this ebook to promote various web sites all of which, despite a low PR, have #1 search rankings and attract traffic automatically. My mailing lists grow each day on autopilot and my ebooks are branded by my subscribers giving them the opportunity to gain commissions. It’s a formula which you can use yourself and you NEVER, EVER have to suffer from Page Rank Paranoia because instead of getting all hung up on that little green bar you are spending your web site promotion time and tactics in a “smarter” way. So next time you’re turned down for a link exchange because the other web site owner considers your PR way too low for them to be bothered with, don’t get upset. You know better. In the next chapter I’ll quickly recap and then look at some resources you may find useful.

QUICK RECAP
So now you’ve read my “blueprint” on exactly how I’ve taken web sites to #1 rankings, gained traffic to those sites and generated money form them without falling victim to Page Rank Paranoia. What’s to stop you doing the same thing? I’ll now give you a quick recap: • • • • • Put together web sites on subjects which interest you Register an appropriate domain name relevant to the subject matter of your web site – GoDaddy are recommended Build your web site Publish it on the internet using a reputable hosting company. Lunar Pages are recommended Write an accompanying ebook. Give it away to subscribers to your mailing list. Make links in the book “brandable” as an incentive for your readers to circulate your ebook as widely as possible. Use Aweber and ViralPDF. For a “live example” of this in action, please refer to one of my web sites using these principles – http://www.freepokerebook.co.uk Don’t get hung up on your Page Rank (Paranoia!). Use other promotional methods such as article marketing and press releases
