                   Duties of CSSAUH Board Members (Draft)

The CSSAUH Board of the term Fall 2007-Spring 2008 academic year consists of the
following positions:
    1. One President
    2. Three Vice Presidents
    3. One Treasurer
    4. One Web Master
    5. One Sports Director
    6. One Event/Activities Director
    7. One Faculty Member

It is concluded from the experiences of previous CSSAUH officers that duties of
Board members should be clearly delineated for the purpose of smooth operation of
the organization. The following is the outline of duties of each position drawn from
CSSAUH’s past experiences. The outline of the duties is open to the adjustment and
modification in order to suit the current group situation.

President: Yilamu
        Recruit officers and keep the CSSAUH Board functional;
        Solicit funding from the L.A consulate and other sources;
        Seek sponsorship for major events;
        Convene Board meetings as needed and prepare the agenda;
        Send members to represent CSSAUH in on/off campus events/functions;
        Respond to emails of major issue;
        Assist and motivate board member;
        Make the final decision when there is evenly split opinions within Board;
        Head coordinator of the National Day celebration while other officers
          assist;
        Initiate proposals; seek comments, advices, and consensus from other
          Board members for the decisions affecting the CSSAUH as a whole.


Vice President for Internal Affairs: Mengxuan Liu
        Represent the CSSAUH when needed;
        Assist President’s work when needed;
        Coordinate art work of National Day celebration and that of other major
          event while other officers assist;
        Prepare and maintain CSSAUH work files;
        Keep record of Board meetings;
        Annual registration of the CSSAUH with the RIO administering office of
          the UH;
        Coordinate new students services (Arrange pickup, temporary housing and
          other related matters);
        Initiate proposals; seek comments, advices, and consensus from other
          Board members for the decisions affecting the CSSAUH as a whole.
Vice President for External Affairs: Qijuan Fang
        Represent the CSSAUH when needed;
        Assist President’s work when needed;
        Head coordinator of Moon Festival activity while other officers assist;
        Head coordinator of New Student Picnic on Sept. 9 (Traditional event co-
          hosted by US-China Peoples Friendship Association-Honolulu);
        Head coordinator of New Year (and Christmas) event (Traditional event
          co-hosted by US-China Peoples Friendship Association-Honolulu);
        Organize and coordinate contingent public events while other officers
          assist;
        Serve as the coordinator of public relations between CSSAUH and other
          organizations;
        Initiate proposals; seek comments, advices, and consensus from other
          Board members for the decisions affecting the CSSAUH as a whole.

Vice President for General Affairs: Ming Zhang
        Represent the CSSAUH when needed;
        Assist President’s work when needed;
        Head coordinator of Spring Festival celebration while other officers assist;
        Head coordinator of seminars and academic events sponsored by CSSAUH;
        Initiate and chair the Election Committee for the leading officers of next
          term;
        Initiate proposals; seek comments, advices, and consensus from other
          Board members for the decisions affecting the CSSAUH as a whole;
        Other works when needed.

Web Master: Shaoxuan Zhang
      Host of CSSAUH email list
              - Manage email list (e.g. filter spam and illegal emails, manage
                    subscription and unsubscription, approve group sending email
                    requests of non-subscribers);
              - Maintain quality/order of the email list (e.g. appropriate manner).
      Maintain CSSAUH web site;
              - Update the content of CSSAUH web pages
              - Fix technical problems of CSSAUH web site
      Initiate proposals; seek comments, advices, and consensus from other
        Board members for the decisions affecting the CSSAUH web site and
        email list.

Treasurer: Guilan Xia
       Maintain the CSSAUH account with the banks;
       Maintain fiscal records of CSSAUH readily available for the review of all
          Board members (e.g. keep receipts, make record of incomes, expenses, and
          balance);
       Sign out checks and reimburse expenses.

Sports Director: Xin Chen
        Initiate and coordinate sport events;
          Initiate proposals; seek comments, advices, and consensus from other
           Board members for the decisions affecting the CSSAUH as a whole;
          Serve as CSSAUH BBS site manager.
                  - Update the web page of CSSAUH BBS;
                  - Fix technical problems of CSSAUH BBS;
                  - Maintain quality/order of the CSSAUH BBS.

Event/Activities Director: Chunfang Ge
       Recruit and coordinate all volunteers for CSSAUH events;
       Work with the head coordinators of above-mentioned major events to
       assist their duties;
       Initiate and coordinate other leisure events/activities while other officers
          assist;
       Substitute any of the head coordinators of above-mentioned major events
          for which they are not available.

Faculty Member: Prof. Kate Zhou
        Representing UH Chinese faculty/scholar members of the CSSAUH;
        Coordinate matters between the CSSAUH and UH Chinese faculty/scholar;
        Serve as an advisor of the Board operation (e.g. Make advice on the
         CSSAUH policies and their implementation);
        Initiate proposals and has an equal right of vote on all Board decisions;


Thank you for your enthusiasm in serving the UH Chinese community. This
document is intended to assist you with the better service of the UH Chinese
community. Hope you can gain valuable experiences for your personal development
