SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE:

The New England College of Optometry Photograph Collection contains photographs ranging from the
beginning of the twentieth century to present time. It documents portions of the College‟s history, focusing on
the people involved with the school, events, buildings, and affiliations.

NOTES ON ARRANGEMENT:

Many of the photographs are undated. When possible, an approximate year or range of years has been provided.

A significant number of photographs have the name “Sislowski” written on the back. David Sislowski was the
Director of Recruitment (circa 1981) for NECO and apparently used his name to identify photographs that
belonged to his office.

Photographs previously stored in albums were removed due to preservation concerns and the physical albums
lack of historical significance. Photographs were removed and placed into folders in the order in which they
appeared and any captions or accompanying information have been transcribed. Large collections of snapshots
from Hyman Kamen‟s Gala and the College‟s Centennial Gala have been placed into archival albums. Please
see Boxes 3 and 4.

Photographs of historical value dating from 1900 through approximately 1950 have been placed into a separate
series. When appropriate, cross references have been included.

Photographs can also be found on CD and DVD in Box 1. Slides have been placed into a separate binder in Box
2. Oversize materials are stored also stored separately in Box 5.

Other media in collection: CDs, DVDs, slides, and negatives. Inventories for the slide collection and the
CD/DVD collection have been included as appendices at the end of this finding aid.
