When the holidays came around, she would give her neighbors their favorite pies, cakes and pastries as gifts. Mrs. Engelhard’s pastry making popularity gained momentum through the years, and in 1960 she decided to turn her basement into a bakery and sold her wares to the local merchants. After tasting the mouth watering pastries, the tourists who visited the local restaurants and hotels began asking the owners for the name of the person who made the delicious delicacies. Quite a few of the tourists approached Mrs. Engelhard and asked her to ship these fresh baked desserts to them. She would bake and freeze them, and then ship them to her customers who lived all over the world. Mrs. Engelhard did this for almost fifteen years.
