NEW MEMBER INFORMATION PACKET
     2011-2012 ACADEMIC YEAR
                              ILLINI PRA MISSION STATEMENT:

        To introduce students at the University of Illinois to the field of public relations.

    To facilitate career development through outreach to public relations professionals and
                    through utilization of University and PR agency resources.

       To provide the industry with talented, well-prepared individuals for the PR world.


                                            ABOUT US:

The Illini Public Relations Association is a student-run, non-profit organization that is dedicated
 to bringing public relations to the Champaign-Urbana campus. ILLINI PRA is the very first PR
 organization to hit the Illinois campus. We are a 200+ student organization sponsored by the
                             Registered Student Organization at Illinois.

   Students aim to learn more about public relations through professional speakers, career
 workshops, case study discussions, technology training, community projects, and networking
                                            trips.

MEMBERSHIP:

ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP:
Active membership is open to currently enrolled University of Illinois students and requires:

   1. Year membership fee of $25 (includes: ILLINI PRA t-shirt).

   2. Attendance at ILLINI PRA and client committee meetings, fundraisers, social events.

   3. Contributing new innovated ideas and suggestions to the organization.



EXECUTIVE BOARD:
Open to currently enrolled University of Illinois students who have been active in PRA for over
one semester and requires:

   1. Required attendance at monthly executive board meetings and association
      presentations.

   2. Optional attendance either Chicago Networking Trip.

   3. Participation in arranging internal events and external activities.

   4. Manage events, projects, meetings, etc.

   5. If Project Director for a committee, attend weekly project meetings.


    If you are interested in executive board member position please stay posted. Applications
                      will be distributed in early April for the 2011-2012 term.



                                          2011-2012 CLIENTS:

HERCAMPUS – ILLINOIS:
Her Campus Illinois is an online magazine written by college women for college women. We
offer content on a range of topics including health, fashion, sports, travel, food, fitness, politics,
current events, how-to's and SO much more. It provides any and all information that a
collegiate needs to know, and is applicable to real life because our content is written by girls
who have or are currently experiencing it all.

EATCU:
EatCU is an online menu guide for U of I students. Our mission is to make the food ordering
process as cheap, fast, and easy as possible for University students.
COLLEGE COUTURE:
College Couture is a student organization dedicated to increasing fashion awareness on
campus. We will be hosting the first annual Fashion Week at the University of Illinois from April
10-17, 2011. We will provide educational and networking opportunities for students interested
in careers in the fashion or advertising industry. Our goal is to enlighten students on fashion as
a subculture of art, entertainment and our everyday lives.

IMPULSE MAGAZINE:
Impulse is the University of Illinois' lifestyle and society magazine. A cultural catalyst, Impulse
sparks the popular dialogue about all the latest trends in politics, opinions, fashion, food, sex
and everything else an Illini cares about.



                                            POINT SYSTEM:

   Points are very important when it comes to the networking trip. The members with the
   most points by the end of February will be given the opportunity to go on the networking
   trip to Chicago.

   ILLINI PRA MEETINGS: 2 pts.

   COMMITTEE MEETINGS: 2 pts.

   FUNDRAISER: 5 pts.

   SOCIAL EVENTS: 3 pts.

   PRESS RELEASE: 3 pts.

   BLOG: 2 pts.

   INTERNSHIP/JOB OPPORTUNITY: 1 pt.

   NEW MEMBER: 5 pts.



                                          NETWORKING TRIP:

       In mid-February, ILLINI PRA provides members with the highest number of points to go
   on a networking trip to Chicago’s top PR agencies. Some of those PR agencies include:
   Golin Harris, Eldeman, Ogivly, Burson-Marsteller, Zeno Group, Weber Shandwick,
   Fleishman-Hillard, and Hill and Knowlton.
                                     FUNDRAISERS/SOCIAL EVENTS:

This fall semester for ILLINI PRA is packed with great events. As a member, you will be expected
to attend.

SEPTEMBER: PR Press Release Contest – Winner gets a gift card to an eatery on Green St.
OCTOBER: EATCU Fundraiser – Possibility of working with EATCU on a cook-out for students.
NOVEMEBER: Holiday Party at Cly’s – End of semester party!
DECEMBER: Flyer Contest – Winner gets a gift card to an eatery on Green Street.


                           MEETINGS AND EVENTS FALL 2011 SEMESTER:

General Meetings will typically fall on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings after 7 p.m. Exceptions
will be made in the case of speakers with conflicts to these times. Members are required to
attend one meeting per month. Meetings for this semester will include:

Tuesday, September 27th at 7 p.m. in Greg Hall 319: Natalie Labriola from CardRunners, LLC
and Client Presentations.

Tuesday, October 11th at 7 p.m. in Greg Hall 319: Stephanie Florence, JSH&A PR

Tuesday, November 8th at 7 p.m. in Greg Hall 319: Surprise PR speaker!

Tuesday, December 6th at 7 p.m. in Greg Hall 319: Career Center – Critiquing Resumes.

Meeting times and locations may change. There will be a reminder e-mail sent out a week. If
              you are unable to attend a meeting, please notify our secretary at
illiniprasecretary@gmail.com. We will be sure to send you meeting minutes and important
                                         hand-outs.
