THE DUTIES OF A RUGBY PLAYER
                                THE 7 FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES
Rugby, being a school of life, embraces a number of social and emotional concepts such as courage, loyalty,
sportsmanship, discipline and team work.
In order to prepare himself for the practice of our sport, every player should abide by the 7 simple principles
governing the rules of the game as well as its physical preparation and technical mastering..
1. Regular training
Regular training should be your priority.
It is the one parameter which leads to proper adaptation and progress. It constitutes the essential prerequisite to
enable one to deal with the physical and psychological demands of Rugby practice.
Should you consider that your physical condition is either not up to the standard or momentarily diminished, your
duty is to keep your trainer informed of that situation and avoid to participate to meetings or even training
sessions.
2. Have a preparation corresponding to the requirements of the position in the game
To play in some positions, particularly if you wish to move to first-row, you ought to be totally conscious of the
necessity to have the corresponding appropriate morphology and to compel yourself to an adequate and sufficient
training.
3. Possess an adequate technique, particularly in the scrum
Rugby is a sport which requires both knowledge as well as technical mastery.
The scrum in particular entails the respect of the following rules :
• Before stepping in the scrum, you ought to have your legs bent, your back flat and your head straight up.
• You must obey the referee’s orders.
• You must not take the position of entering in the scrum if you are not ready to do so
4. Practice an honest behaviour
• You must not confuse confrontation with violence, aggressiveness with mugging, engagement with blindness,
• You must consider your opponent as a game partner,
• You must look after your own safety, the safety of your team mates and of your opponents.

5. Have respect for the rules of the game
Knowledge and respect of the set of rules contribute to the efficiency and to the safety of the game. For example,
it is forbidden to voluntarily collapse a maul or a scrum.
6. Refuse any kind of doping
The use of products, stuff and/or any doping process is cheating. It is furthermore dangerous for your health and it
hinders the mastery of your behaviour.
7. Use of protection gear.
Utilisation of normal protection accessories can add a plus to your safety.
IMPORTANT
RUM offers to all licensees, clubs and training centres, documentation, awareness notes and information
tools about important matters such as insurances, players’ safety, game rules (brochures, video-cassettes,
technical notebooks….).
Those documents are available at the Union’s Registered Office.

RUM undertakes to keep the clubs duly informed of new rules as and when they are communicated by the
International Rugby Board (IRB) which governs our sport.

INSURANCE
Every player will be entitled to a refund of his medical expenses up to Rs 10000. in case of an accident while
practicing Rugby. However RUM advises every licensee to subscribe to an insurance cover which is likely to
support the medical costs following any physical injuries exceeding the limit of indemnity of Rs 10000.

COMMITMENT
Every player or leader/official applying for a license, certifies that he does not suffer from any past or present
medical ailment which could prohibit his practice of Rugby
