- HEALTH INSTITUTIONS

Nursing and physiotherapy training requires the cooperation of health centres where students carry
out their practical training, consolidating their theoretical knowledge, and developing skills, dexterity etc, in
the application of that knowledge.
The General Health Law 14/86, dated April 25th, stipulates in article 104:
“All healthcare facilities must be made available for their use in the pre-graduate, post-graduate and
       continuous teaching of professionals ”.
The health sector has established a permanent relationship with the education sector, in order to train
professionals who are suitable to work in the health system and to ensure that the training given is fully
integrated in that system.
In order to train professionals in the Health Sector, agreements are signed between the University and the
health sector. The general basis for these agreements is laid down in the Royal Decree 1558/1986, dated
June 28th, in which the following general objectives are outlined.

Teaching: To promote maximum use of health resources for university teaching, collaborating in the
clinical and health training of all students from any of the three university cycles or pursuing post-graduate
studies, in all qualifications and subjects related with the Health Sciences.
To cooperate in maintaining the qualification of professionals working in the Health sector, monitoring their
actions and re-training, favouring their incorporation in the university teaching.

Assistance: To cooperate so that research and the university teaching of health science may be used for
in the continuous improvement of healthcare.

Research: To promote research, coordinating the activities of the Universities with the Health Institutions.
The position of associate clinical lecturer outlined in the above-mentioned Royal Decree, is that
which, while belonging to the University staff, must cover for the staff of the authorised Health Institution.
At present, under the Agreement between the Junta de Andalucía (local government) and the Universities
of our region, a Specific Arrangement has been signed for the University of Malaga. Published in the
