Changes in Cell Phone discipline policy
2/19/08
Rationale: Cell phone use is prohibited during the
school day. Issues of cheating and causing a
distraction in class have made this restriction
necessary. Over the past few years the school
staff has enforced this prohibition with warnings.
Subsequent offences meant the cell phone was
confiscated and parents were responsible for
pickup of the phone.
Unfortunately these discipline measures have had
little impact on the use of cell phones during the
school day. This year there have been over 250
instances of student warnings and/or cell phone
confiscation. This number exceeds all offences
for the entire 2006- 2007 school year. Thus the
following discipline measures will be enforced
starting March 1:
1st offense – 1-hour administrative detention
2nd offense—Saturday suspension
3rd offense—Out of school suspension
