So many good and positive things have happened to our company. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in some of the events that we forget we’re supposed to be communicators. So, let’s take the time to do a bit of communicating… First, we added two new product lines to the SunDance Family this past year; Venture Boats and Ocean Yachts. (Twenty years employment, that is!) Jim Started at SunDance in September of 1987 as a technician. And today he is Senior Tech in our Retail Service Department in Ft. Lauderdale. “Jimbo”, as he is known to most people, rides his Harley every chance he gets and enjoys working out at a local health club. One of the reasons Jimbo is so well appreciated by everyone is that his cherub smile never leaves his face. Congratulations Jimbo and here’s to another 20! Around the WATERFRONT unique. The MacDonald’s, well John mostly, was considering a change in boats and discussed the situation with SunDance. With the help of some incentives and a generous trade-in allowance, John purchased a new Silverton 50’ Convertible. We can only imagine Charlene’s surprise when they went to Jensen Beach, supposedly to pick up their old boat after a servicing, only to discover her new Silverton. Now the other side of the friendship, Ruth and Dave, had also been thinking of a new vessel. They had been considering a Silverton 50’ for quite some time and now decided to make the move. The very same moment that John was making his purchase the Spiers made theirs. Obviously, this was a friendship made in heaven. The MacDonald’s and Spiers than did some travel throughout the Bahamas and met up with SunDance again at the Port Lucaya Rendezvous. And there, docked side-by-side were the new “Sea Vixen” of the MacDonald’s and the new “Sea Goddess” of the Spiers’. We have a strong feeling that this friendship will last a long time. They seem to have so much in common. PRICING ON THE NEW ND 210 COASTAL! What a TIME And what a time we’re going to have.. WE HAD! The 2007 SunDance Marine Rendezvous Series proved to be the best ever. Of course, we say that every year but, they just do keep getting better and better. More folks and boats and a lot more fun…It was just one heck of a season. Things started off at Hawks Cay Resort on Duck Key in April. What really started the first Rendezvous of the season off was the cruise down to Duck Key. The seas were blowing up a bit and many of us, including the SunDance lead boats, decided to fair weather it and stay inside the waterway. It proved to be a great cruise through some of the most beautiful and scenic views in the entire state of Florida. It was greatly appreciated by all. One of the great things about the trip was that there were many first time boaters and first time Rendezvous participants along. They spent a great deal of time with some of the old hands gleaning a lot about boating in general and cruising the coast of Florida as well. We took the opportunity to have one of our “Woman’s Boating Classes” at the event and as usual a lot of the ladies went back to their boats attempting to explain to their “Better Half” how they were really doing things both wrong and badly. We kinda’ love that. Next year we plan on calling it the “Spouse Boating Class” so everyone can show up. Our annual “Best Drink of Summer Contest” seemed to get everyone in the mood for that Bahamian life style and no one really cared if it was 5 O’clock anywhere. But happily, all things were in moderation and everyone had a great time. Many Captains suggested setting out on their own trips and we look forward to their stories. But back to Hawks; we planned a lot of events from the Dolphin encounters (If you’ve never done this, you must give it a try sometime. Swimming with these smart and playful critters is something to be remembered.), dinners and of course, the SunDance Mardi Gras evening with lots of great outfits and dancing ladies. Probably the most exciting thing for us was the way people got to know each other and became friends. One of the things we believe in; SunDance is a family and at every Rendezvous, old friends and new friends come together to enjoy this lifestyle. In July, things moved on to Lucaya Resort on Grand Bahamas Island. Almost a hundred folks made the trip over to enjoy the fishing, snorkeling and barbecue. Again, lots of newbie’s came on the trip and we hope they enjoyed the fun and we expect to see them back next year. There were even a few folks that were not part of the SunDance family, not having purchased a boat from us, but we adopted them anyway and lo and behold we think we’ve sold a boat to one or two. Welcome! Then it was the Bimini Blast. There were 44 boats and well over 200 people attending the final Rendezvous of the season…having a major ball. Many of our partners such as The Harborage, Venture Marine, Silverton and other companies sent representatives. The word has gotten around that the SunDance Marine Bimini Blast is growing and going even after 20 years of festivities. That makes us really proud. The weekend events included our Honeymoon Harbor Raft-Up and picnic and another of our famous “Women’s Boating Class” to insure all were prepared for the trip home. All the festivities aimed toward our theme night “Toga Party” which we’re proud to report that even the ancient Roman’s would have given two thumbs up to. We had expected many sheets to be missing from local hotels but were pleasantly surprised with the quality and ingenuity of all the participants…the outfits were fantastic. Suffice to say Bimini remains the apple of the SunDance Series. Things weren’t over after Bimini either. We held our Lake Boca Raft-Up on Sunday, August 19th. We just couldn’t let the summer end without one more meeting with our friends. Thirty two boats tied up together and we enjoyed the summer breezes with a cook-out and lots of games. A darn good end to the summer. We want to thank everyone who came, brought friends and just enjoyed the activities. The Rendezvous Series is the best thing we do. We thought we’d bring you up to speed and also get some ideas from you on some of our locations. First, last year we received a great many suggestions on possible locations for one of the Rendezvous’ and we’ve been scoping many of those places out. However, we can tell you that one of the suggestions is going to happen. Many folks told us of their desire to cruise to Key West enjoying both the cruise and the city. So, April 24-27 we’re going to Key West. Plans are being finalized now and we’ll be providing the specific information to you soon and urge you to respond quickly as dockage is limited in Key West. The second cruise of the season will be in early July and we are making a final determination in the next month or two of our destination. Many things are being looked at, Chubb, Green Turtle, maybe even going north to Daytona and attend a race car school. In September, the Marine Industries Association of South Florida held their annual golf tournament at the Hillcrest Country Club in Hollywood, Florida. SunDance Marine’s Rich Clawges not only participated in the event but was also asked if SunDance would like to donate a prize for the activities. Being an avid golfer and also knowing the golf capabilities of most of the participants, Rich suggested that SunDance donate a 21 foot Wellcraft Fisherman with E-Tec DIGITAL SELECTIVE CALLING If you have purchased a VHF radio within the past few years, chances are it is equipped with Digital Selective Calling, or DSC. Many boaters know there is some sort of “Distress Function” or S.O.S. button on their VHF radio but they don’t know how it works or to whom it will call. The fact is, it will not work at all unless the radio is registered and an MMSI number has been assigned to it. An MMSI number is your boat’s own Maritime Mobile Service Identity number. It could be thought of as a sort of phone number for your VHF. When your VHF is registered, the MMSI retains detailed information about the owner and the vessel, which is recorded in the US Coast Guard’s national distress databank for use in a distress situation.
