					                                     wikispaces
                                    A wikispace is a web space.
                         Each space can hold many pages, files, and images.
               A private space can only be viewed or edited by members of the space.



                               Creating and Setting Up a Wikispace

Creating a space if you do not have a username and password:
       Go to: http://wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers
       Create a Username and Password
         o Suggestions for a Username are your Novell login
            or your name
         o Your Username will be displayed at the top of the
            wiki and will identify your discussion topics
       Enter your Email Address
       Type in the name of your space
         o wikispace names cannot have spaces
         o wikispace names can contain hyphens
         o space names will show up as lower case
       Be sure to click Private and check the box for
         Educational Use
       Click Join
       Wikispaces that you are members of will be listed in the left hand menu bar
       The creator of the space is the organizer; other members may be designated as an organizer.




Creating a space if you already have a username and password:
       Go to: http://wikispaces.com/site/for/teachers
       Click Sign in at the top of the screen

          Enter your Username and Password
          Click Sign In
          Typee in the name of your space
           o wikispace names cannot have spaces
           o wikispace names can contain hyphens
           o   space names will show up as lower case
          Be sure to click Private and check the box for
           Educational Use
          Click Create
          The creator of the space is the organizer; other
           members may be designated as an organizer

Signing out of wikispace:
       You must sign out each time you leave the wikispace
       Click on Sign Out at the top right of the screen


Creating pages:
       Click the New Page link at the top left of the wiki page
       Type the name of the page
       Click Create
       Save the page


Editing a page:
       Select a page from the left hand menu
       Click on Edit this Page (at top of screen)
       Type the content for your page
       Use the Editor bar to format the page                      Color and            Bullets   Numbers
                                                       Underline     Style

                                          Bold

                                                               Change font size: Heading 1,
                                                      Italic     2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and Normal         Add a horizontal bar to
                                                                  (Heading 1 is largest)          separate page sections

           Use the Color and Style icon to change the font, font size, font color, text alignment and
            background color
          o     Highlight the text you wish to format
          o     Click on the icon
          o     Select formatting options
          o     To change Font Color and Background Color:
               Click in the white box
               Click desired color on the outside rim of color wheel
               Click on desired shade
          o     Click on Apply Style
          Click Save to save all editing changes to the page


Uploading files or images to put on a page:
      Select a page from the left menu bar
      Click on Edit this Page (at top of screen)
      Click the Insert Images and Files icon
      Click Browse under Upload New File and locate the file or image to
        upload
      Click Upload
      The file or image will show up under Insert a File

Inserting files or images to a page:
        Select a page from the left menu bar
        Click on Edit this Page (at top of screen)
        Click the Insert Images and Files icon
        Place the cursor on the page where you want the file or image to be inserted
        Under Insert a File, double click on the file or image to insert it on to the page
        You can also drag the file or image over to the page
        Click on the x at the top right to close the Insert a File window
        Click Save

Inserting links to websites on a page:
        Select a page from the left menu bar
        Click on Edit this Page
        Click the Insert Link icon
        In the Link Text under Add Link, type the
          text that will identify the website
        Click on External Link
        Type the URL of the website in box
        Click OK
        Click Save




                                         Formatting the Space
Changing the wikispace theme: (themes let you change the overall look of your wikispace)
      Click Manage Space
      Click Look and Feel in the Space Settings
        section on the page
      Go to the Theme section
      Click on Change or make a new theme
      Click on Preview to see theme selection
      Click on Use Theme to set wikispace theme

Changing the wikispace background color:
      Click Manage Space
      Click Look and Feel in the Space Settings section on the page
      Go to the Colors section
      Click on pick color to change Background Color, Menu Color, Text Color and Link Color
      Click Save

Changing the wikispace logo:
      Click Manage Space
      Click Look and Feel in the Space Settings section on the page
      Go to the Logo section
      Click the Browse button
      Browse to find the image you want to use (jpg, png, or gif, recommended size: 140 x 48 pixels)
      Image may be an animation or clip art
      Click Save

                                        Managing the Space
Locking pages:
       Wikispace organizers can lock pages. A locked page cannot be edited by the members.
       Click Manage Space
       Click List Pages under Space Contents
       Select lock next to the page you want to lock
       To unlock a page follow the same directions and click on unlock

Deleting and renaming pages:
       Click Manage Space
       Click List Pages under Space Contents
       Click delete or rename next to the page you want to delete or change the name of

Deleting and renaming uploaded files and images:
       Click Manage Space
       Click List and Upload Files under Space Contents
       Find the file and click on rename or delete in the Actions column

Private Messages:
       Private messages can be sent to a member of any wikispace using their username
       New messages are indicated by a red envelope in the mail icon
       Students can turn this feature off by clicking on My Account
       Go to Allow Private Messages from and click the down arrow
       Choose No one

Deleting a wikispace:
       Click Manage Space
       Click Delete This Space in the Space Settings section

Setting email notifications:
       Click on My Account at top of space
       Scroll down to Email Discussion Responses
       Choose either Yes or No for “send me an email when someone replies to my post”
       Click Save

Changing your username picture:
      Click on My Account at top of space
      Click on Change Picture to upload a picture for your username
      Click on Browse and locate the desired image
      Click Upload to change your picture
      Tip: small simple images work the best

                                   Inviting Members to the Space
Inviting teachers:
        Click on Manage Space
        Scroll down and click on Invite People under Space Promotion
        Enter complete email addresses for everyone you are inviting to the space
        Change the default email message in the white box if desired
        Click Send


Inviting students:
        Wikispaces.com will set up your students for you (no need for student email accounts)
        Create a list of student Usernames and Passwords to send to wikispaces.com in an email
        Assign a Username for each student (must be at least 3 characters long and can include letters,
          numbers, underscores _, or dashes - )
                 Usernames must be at least 3 characters long
                 Usernames may include letters, numbers, underscores and/or dashes
                 Many combinations of first names, last names, and initials may be already taken. You
                     may want to add a school identifier to students’ usernames such as the class period
                 Suggestions for Usernames are:
                     o       first name, last initial, last part of Novell login (johnd11025)
                     o       last name, first initial, last part of Novell login (doej11025)
                     o       Novell login (jmd11025)
        Assign a password for each student or have them create one (can use Novell password)
                 Passwords must be at least 6 characters long
        Type the student list in an email message using the following format:
                 username,password
                     o       cjones10530,football
        Email help@wikispaces.com
                 Notify wikispaces which space you want your students added to (the URL of the
                     wikispace)
                 Wikispaces will set up your class or classes and send you a confirmation email in
                     approximately two days
