Anti-Theft Alarm System
General information

Anti-theft alarm system functions are integrated with those
of the Comfort System Central Control Module J393

Access/Start Control Module J518 transmits Information
on activating and deactivating the anti-theft alarm to J393
via the Comfort System CAN-Bus.

Note:

     Should the anti-theft alarm system be triggered, the
     alarm source is stored in Comfort System Central
     Control Module J393 and can be checked        97-5,
     Comfort System Central Control Module J393 -
     Alarm sources, checking .


Before troubleshooting or servicing, technicians must be
familiar with the functions and operation specifics of the
parking aid system. Always read the owners manual and
review applicable system functions.

Anti-theft alarm system, activating and deactivating

Note:

     When vehicle is equipped from the factory with anti-
     theft alarm system and trailer hitch package, the
     trailer can be integrated with the anti-theft alarm
     system 96-10, Trailer, integrating with anti-theft
     alarm system .


Anti-theft alarm system, activating:

Anti-theft alarm system is automatically switched on by
locking the vehicle. Anti-theft alarm system is then
activated immediately.

Note:

     In order to prevent anti-theft alarm system from
     triggering unnecessary alarms, close all windows
     and doors before locking the vehicle.


Ant-theft alarm system, deactivating:

           Anti-theft alarm system is deactivated when the
           vehicle is unlocked via the unlock button on radio-
           frequency remote control, or


           when vehicle is opened with keyless access, or


           when the ignition is switched on.


Unlocking vehicle mechanically (emergency opening)

- Unlock vehicle at drivers door.

Anti-theft alarm system remains activated, however no
alarm is triggered.

- Switch on ignition within 15 seconds.

Note:

     If the ignition is not switched on after 15 seconds the
     alarm is triggered.


By switching on the ignition, the electronic immobilizer
recognizes a valid vehicle key and deactivates the anti-
theft alarm system.

Trailer, integrating with anti-theft alarm system

When vehicle is equipped from the factory with anti-theft
alarm system and trailer hitch package, the trailer can be
integrated with the anti-theft alarm system .

Anti-theft alarm system, activating:

- Ensure trailer plug is securely connected to vehicle trailer
wiring plug.

- Lock vehicle.

Anti-theft alarm system is then activated immediately.
Trailer is now integrated with anti-theft alarm system.

Note:

      Alarm will be activated should trailer wiring be
      disconnected from vehicle trailer wiring plug.


Anti-theft alarm system, activating:

            Anti-theft alarm system is deactivated when the
            vehicle is unlocked via the unlock button on radio-
            frequency remote control, or


            when vehicle is opened with keyless access, or


            when the ignition is switched on.

Alarm Horn H12 , servicing

Alarm Horn H12 is located at left in plenum chamber,
beneath E-Box.

Alarm Horn H12 , removing and installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

     Torque Wrench 5-50Nm VAG1331 (or 5 - 50 Nm
     equivalent)


Note:

     To remove the Alarm Horn H12 (Back-up horn), anti-
     theft alarm system must be deactivated.


Removing:

Caution!

           Switch off all electrical consumers.


           Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.


- Remove E-box in plenum chamber at left 97-4,
Electronics box in left plenum chamber, removing and
installing .




- Remove bolt - 1 - .

- Disengage connector - 2 - and disconnect it from Alarm
Horn H12 - 1 - .

Installing:

Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Note:




     If self-locking nut - 3 - has been loosened in order
     to remove bracket - 2 - , it must be replaced.


- Torque all bolts and nuts according to value in table
96-11, Alarm Horn H12 , tightening torques: .

Alarm Horn H12 , function can be checked using Comfort
System Central Control Module J393 On Board Diagnostic
(OBD) program function "Output Diagnostic Test Mode
(DTM)" 97-5, Comfort System Central Control Module
J393 , Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) .
