22nd May 2008 Dear Miss Zaman, Thank you for your interest in the Historic Scotland post of Membership Assistant. Unfortunately there are certain nationality restrictions when applying to the Civil Service. Some Civil Service posts are classified as “Public Service” under European Community legislation. Applications for these posts should normally be British or Commonwealth citizens (as defined in the British Nationality Act 1981), British Protected Persons, or citizens of the Republic of Ireland. With regard to Historic Scotland posts the recruitment memorandum/advert will make it clear whether or not the post is “Public Service”. For “Non Public Service” posts European Community nationals will also be eligible, together with, in some cases, certain of families.
