									RACGP John Murtagh Library : Services for Registrar Members.

All registrar members can access our comprehensive Library service free of

First time users of the Library are requested to register at:
http://www.racgp.org.au/library/registration . Additionally access to the Library’s
licensed resources in the secure areas of the website, including the Library’s full
text databases and the eBook collection, requires users to be logged in to the
RACGP website. The link for registration for a RACGP web account and login to the
RACGP website can be found on the left hand side of the website at
www.racgp.org.au .

Our services include :

      A reference and enquiry service to answer questions on a broad range of
       health and medical topics.

      Access to a unique and specialised collection of books and other materials
       covering areas such as General Practice, Medical Education and Aboriginal
       Health. Loans are sent out and returned by pre-paid courier service. The
       online     catalogue    can    be     accessed    via     the   website   at
       http://resource.racgp.org.au/ or items can be requested by author and/or
       title (if known) or by subject via phone (03) 8699 0519; fax (03) 8699 0400;
       email       library@racgp.org.au      or     the      online    forms     at

      Literature searches, may be requested on the online form at:
       http://www.racgp.org.au/library/literaturesearch . Library staff use a range
       of databases including Medline , Health Collection, CINAHL (Nursing and
       Allied Health), APAIS Health, ATSIHealth, RURAL (The Rural and Remote
       Health Database), Health Business Elite, ERIC (for educational resources),
       The Cochrane Library, and Health & Society Database. Printouts are
       delivered by mail, fax or Email.

      A Current awareness service to help members keep up to date in specific
       areas of interest provides regular eTable Of Contents (e-TOC) via the
       Library’s website at http://www.racgp.org..au/library/etoc . Tables of
       contents for subject packages of journal titles and some single journal titles
       are uploaded each month. Members can register to receive an alert when new
       content is available on the website.
      The Journal service provides copies of articles of interest from the
       hundreds of journal titles held by the Library.

      Inter Library Loans Service to obtain books and articles not available in the
       RACGP John Murtagh Library.

      One-on-one literature search training is available via a web interface or in
       person – contact Jane Ryan (03) 8699 0516 or jane.ryan@racgp.org.au to
       arrange convenient time

Users also have access to :

      DynaMed an evidence based point of care database offering evidence
       summaries for around 3,000 clinical and drug topics, accessed via our
       website. Also available as a PDA/handheld (smartphone, iPhone, iPod Touch,

      The Online Oxford Medical Journals Collection offering full text of 40+
       journals      including      current    issues.       Simply      go       to
       www.racgp.org.au/library/oxfordjournals and click on the required title to be
       taken to the journal website

      Audio Digest programs for immediate playback or for downloading to pc or
       mp3 players for later listening : www.racgp.org.au/library/downloads . PDF
       format summaries are also provided and CDs of programs may be borrowed
       from the Library

      Various ebooks including Harrison’s Online, the AccessMedicine Collection
       and a collection of NetLibrary titles at

      Health Collection, a full text database of 100+ Australasian health, medical
       and allied health journals and other publications :

      ProQuest Health and Medical Complete database, and a suite of EBSCOhost
       databases (including CINAHL, Psychology & Behavioral Science Collection,
       Health Business Elite, and a general Australasian reference database). These
       databases are available at : http://www.racgp.org.au/library/research and
       offer access to full text articles from over 1000 of the world's leading
       medical, psychology, nursing and health journals. Search individual databases
       or across selected EBSCOhost databases using various searching options.
       The EBSCOhost databases can now also be accessed by smartphones and
       web-enabled handhelds

      A customised version of PubMed with special links to many full-text articles
       available through the Library’s ProQuest and Ebscohost databases. To
       enable the link search sessions needs to be running in ProQuest and
       EBSCOhost and login to the RACGP website is necessary. Follow instructions
       found at ; http://www.racgp.org.au/library/pubmed. Perform a search
       using this customised version of PubMed and view the results in
       “Abstract” display mode. Icons indicating ‘RACGP Library article access’ will
       display and clicking on these icons will link to the articles, the majority of
       which are in full text . Icons indicating that full text articles are freely
       available from the publishers will also display.
