Outreach & Education Worker
To develop, deliver and evaluate activities as part of Icon Theatre’s Outreach and
Education programme, targeting disadvantaged and hard-to-reach young people and
communities in Medway and Kent.
Job Description and Key Responsibilities
Youth Theatre development & delivery
To develop and deliver ongoing weekly Youth Theatres for hard-to-reach young people
in Medway. As part of this, to set up and deliver the Arts Award programme, and offer
one-to-one support to participants regarding career pathways, assistance with CV writing
and guidance in locating and accessing further education courses.
To demonstrate a proactive approach to developing and maintaining partnerships and
networks with local schools, community centres, referral agencies, social services, youth
teams and other charitable organisations in order to maximise the reach and impact of
Icon Theatre’s Outreach & Education programme.
To complete all administration necessary to support the Youth Theatres, including
registration, permission slips, and all necessary paperwork as required by Icon Theatre’s
Child Protection Policy, Data Protection Policy and relevant legislation.
To arrange and co-ordinate the fulfilment of operational and technical requirements as
necessary, including booking venues, organising equipment, contracting, planning,
establishing dates and timelines and any other logistics as required.
To maintain and work inside agreed project budgets and be responsible for effective
service delivery within those budgets, keeping records of any spending as appropriate.
Monitoring & evaluation
To carry out effective monitoring and evaluation of work and programmes, including
provision of required information in this area for Icon Theatre and our funders.
Maintain up to date knowledge
To keep abreast of all developments in child protection and health & safety legislation,
and current ‘best practice’ in performing arts education.
Any other work as appropriate
To carry out any other duties as appropriate, furthering development and delivery of Icon
Theatre’s Outreach & Education programme.
Minimum 1 year’s experience drama facilitation working with hard-to-reach,
excluded or disadvantaged young people and communities.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Ability to devise and lead workshops with excluded and disadvantaged young
All candidates are required to undergo an enhanced CRB check.
Some flexibility of working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends,
in accordance with our TOIL policy.
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Knowledge of the range, culture, geography and heritage of Medway and Kent
A pro-active approach to the development of Icon Theatre’s outreach and
Ability to work independently, as well as in collaboration with others.
Professional training in workshop delivery.
Experience in project evaluation and monitoring.
Good word processing skills
Good presentational skills and effective communicator.
Conditions of Work
Contract This is a 2 year fixed term contract, with one month’s notice on
Dependent on funding, there is the possibility of extending the
contract after 2 years and/or increasing the numbers of hours
worked per week.
Pay £20,000 pro rata.
Holidays 20 days a year pro rata.
period 3 months
Hours 15 hours per week. We can offer some flexible working and are
open to discussions of how this may work. No overtime will be
paid but time off in lieu will be given for any hours worked in
Place of work Icon Theatre offices, at the Brook Theatre in Chatham. Youth
Theatre and other outreach sessions will be held at a range of
community venues in Medway & Kent as required.
