                          Infiniti G35 Coupe (Manual) (w/Leather)
The G35 coupe was introduced late in 2002 (as a 2003 model), just in time to earn a spot on our 10Best list. It wasn't a
hard call to make, as there's a lot to like about this car. Although it shares its architecture with the Nissan 350Z, the
Infiniti is more GT than Z, with the expected levels of premium and standard amenities such as ultra-soft leather seats
and an eight-speaker Bose audio system. And the rear-drive G35 coupe gets plenty of lunge from a 3.5-liter all-aluminum
DOHC V-6 that puts out 280 hp and is mated to either a short-throw six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed
automatic with a slick manumatic shifter. A four-wheel independent suspension makes for exemplary handling, and for
those who want more, there's an optional Sport package with a limited-slip differential, 18-inch alloy wheels, and high-
performance tires. Updates for 2004 are minimal.

2006 Charting the Changes — Infiniti

October 2005

Nissan's luxury unit hopes to increase its annual U.S. sales by more than 50 percent, to 200,000 vehicles, over the next five
to seven years. To that end, it continues to systematically revamp its lineup. There's a redesigned M-series that shares
much of the FM platform used by the G35 and other Nissans, but fully 60 percent of the M35/M45's components are
reportedly new. The Q45 gets a Sport model. The G35 coupe is updated with bixenon headlights and revised taillights. The
QX56 SUV adds a 60/40 folding third-row seat and a few new options. The FX gets a face lift, including a new grille, bumper,
and wheel design.

Unchanged: G35 sedan.

Future: GT-R super-sports car on modified FM platform with a 450-hp, 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6, in late 2007 or early 2008.

We've been yakking good things about the G35 since Infiniti pulled the sheets off
it in 2002. Draped over a 112.2-inch suspension bridge of a wheelbase is a tidy
shape marked by clipped overhangs and quad afterburner taillights. Share this
good taste with friends. The cabin has so much space to spare that the back
bench has adjustable seatback rake. At 15 cubic feet, the G35's trunk ties the
Saab's for largest, and the lid has an obvious release button below the left

Although it flits up mountain roads with stability and quick reflexes, the G35
doesn't punish you for your fun with a brittle ride. The car did demonstrate some of

Once, the G35 could have won this test. Now it's aging into third place, and it has
                                           nothing to be ashamed of.

2005 Charting the Changes—Infiniti

October 2004

Infiniti has reshaped some sheetmetal to strengthen the family resemblance of the
G35 and Q45 models and has given them a redesigned dash and center console.
The interesting lane-departure warning system becomes available on the FX35/45
[see Technical Highlight below].

Unchanged: QX56.

Dead: M45, I35.

Future: An all-new rear-drive, longer-wheelbase M45 is scheduled for a spring
2005 intro as a 2006. Infiniti Q45

TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHT: To keep distracted, drowsy drivers from wandering out of their lanes, Infiniti will offer a lane-
departure warning system on the FX35/45. The system uses a small camera that mounts in the overhead console and peers
through the windshield. A dedicated computer loaded with image-recognition software determines the boundaries of the lane
and the car's position relative to them. If it determines the car is drifting out of the lane, the system emits a noise that
resembles a car going over rumble strips.

COMPLETE REPORT SECTION 5: Crash Test Ratings

Each year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP)crash tests cars,
light trucks, sport-utility vehicles, and vans that are new, popular, redesigned, or have improved safety equipment. These
vehicles are then rated on how well they protect drivers and passengers during frontal and side collisions. NCAP uses a five-
star system for rating vehicles, with five stars indicating the highest safety rating and one star the lowest. Although it is
impossible to assess how well a vehicle provides protection in all circumstances using a single test, NCAP ratings provide a
useful basis for comparing vehicle safety.

About the NHTSA:
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is responsible for reducing deaths, injuries and economic losses resulting
from motor vehicle crashes. This is accomplished by setting and enforcing safety performance standards for motor vehicles
and motor vehicle equipment, and through grants to state and local governments to enable them to conduct effective local
highway safety programs. NHTSA investigates safety defects in motor vehicles, sets and enforces fuel economy standards,
helps states and local communities reduce the threat of drunk drivers, promotes the use of safety belts, child safety seats
and air bags, investigates odometer fraud, establishes and enforces vehicle anti-theft regulations and provides consumer
information on motor vehicle safety topics. NHTSA also conducts research on driver behavior and traffic safety, to develop
the most efficient and effective means of bringing about safety improvements.
