RISK ASSESMENT FOR THE ELING TIDE MILL

THIS SECTION SPECIFICALLY TAKEN FROM THE COUNCIL’S FULL
RISK ASSESSMENT DEALS WITH MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC ONLY.

HAZARDS (and how controlled.)

GLAZING

A survey has been carried out through out the mill by Totton Glass which has
shown up some areas of „non-safety glazing‟. These areas have been treated
as priority and made safe.
______________________________________________________________

CEILING (Low Beams).

As the beams form an integral part of the „mill‟ it has to be accepted that they
will always pose a problem. Although they have been ‟marked‟ with some
signage care must be taken when moving around the building.
______________________________________________________________

FLOOR OBSTRUCTIONS

Because of the nature of this building there maybe some obstructions to be
aware of, because this is a working „tide mill‟ the obstructions are in specific
areas. But should pose no more than a „minor‟ trip hazards so care should be
taken when moving around the mill. Signage is in place where required.

THE TRAINING OF THE “TIDE MILL” STAFF AND THE MAINTENANCE
OF THE BUIDLING.

This building is “attended and supervised” by staff who have been given “fire
training and first aid training.

The milling of the grain to flour is also carried out by fully competent milling
staff whose “knowledge and experience” is being passed on to a new
generation of milling staff.

All areas of the mill visited by members of the public are kept “fully maintained
and fit for purpose.
