FROM THE PRESIDENT’S PERSPECTIVE ; JULY &
“The time has come, the Walrus said, to speak of many things. Of
ships and shoes and sealing wax, and cabbages and kings….”
Well, I shan‟t be speaking of too many things, just a few.
This has now been completed very successfully under the tolerant
and expert guidance of Steve van Rooyen. Many thanks from us all
Steve. We all learnt confidence and how versatile the machine is.
The best student, who receives the “Pig Award” at the August
meeting, was Debbie Spencely. Well done Debs, you really put your
heart into the proceedings.
Toys for the underpriviledged. (See May/June Newsletter)
We have added a month to the closing date, which will be Friday 1
Thanks to Bruce Macfarlane (who will retire here in 2 years time and
join the club) I have about twenty plans for toys from the very simple
(Blocks) to more complicated (Rocking Horse). I will be taking these
to the August meeting where members will be asked to indicate which
they want and I will then have copies made. Those who do not attend
will be able to order copies from myself, Doug Walters in Kenton, and
Brian Edwards in P.A. should they require. Please guys and gals,
make at least one toy and deliver to Marius Schmidt at D&A. Your
committee is dead serious about exposing those who do not pull their
weight! Bring any problems or bugger-ups to the October or
November meetings and we can all assist.
Before I update the meetings schedule, a few items to report.
Don Wood made pretty well a clean sweep of the woodworking
section at the May Bathurst show. Congratulations again, Don. And a
big thank you for hosting the last meeting despite being so ill, reports
back from members who attended advise how successful it was! I will
be publishing a list of the sections for woodworking at Bathurst shows
in the next newsletter, to give us all lots of time to prepare.
Don in Action Meeting at Don‟s 4 July
For those of you who haven‟t been following the trials and tribulations
of past Club Treasurer Bob Hardy in his battle with ill-health, he is
now home at 201 Settlers, where his new phone number is 604-0449.
Because of his past services to all of us, he has been made an
honorary member – welcome back Bob and get strong soon!
There is a possibility that we can exhibit and sell goods at Heritage
Mall. Would all members who may be interested please contact Brian
Edwards our vice-Pres at 624-2945.
TIMES OF MEETINGS HAVE BEEN THE CAUSE OF SOME
CONFUSION. Would everyone please note the meetings will start at
18:00 hrs (6.00 pm) sharp. This leaves time for the braai and getting
home at a reasonable hour. Exception is meetings held at D&A which
begin at 17:30 hrs (5.30 pm).
Membership is still full, but welcome to the following new members
who have filled the vacancies.
Deb Spencely – 624-4339 1 Masonic St. P/A
Vicky Petersen – 624-3529 18 Prince‟s Ave. P/A
Clive Canter – 648-1514 16 Bathurst St. Kenton.
Blikkies Blignaut – 624-2889 1 Heron St. P/A
All Members are in the future going to be asked to let us have brief
details of what paths their lives have trodden, sort of a pen picture
which we would like to publish (with the member‟s approval, of
course). Brian Edwards will run with this one. A question of “Know thy
fellow-man (and woman)”
