       WEEK 1                    Aug 18
      Introduction to the course, syllabus, lab
      In this course we will cover chapters 1-8, 10-13
      Assignments include weekly reading, problems, programs, and
       homework.
      homework will be collected and graded, late work may not be
       accepted.
      Overview what a PLC is and what is does, chapter 1.
      Overview the textbook software, LOGIXPRO, homework is to
       install it and make sure it runs correctly on your chosen PC.
      I will point out pieces of the PLC hardware, and review of the lab
       equipment.
      Log into WEBCT

HOMEWORK
   Read Chapter 1, Overview of PLCs
    Review homework pg17; 2 to 10, 12, 13
   Answers to homework may be hand written but it must be neat, and
    orderly. Work not up to college level will not be accepted. Do not
    hand in work that is torn from a notebook (must be busted). Do not
    hand in work that has answers scratched out on it. Do not hand in
       work that is not in order, (answer 1,2,3,4, etc.) documentation is a
       key skill that you will need to develop.
      Install LOGIXPRO and make sure it works
      Complete the LAB MANUAL problems: 1-1 to 1-4. Be prepared to
       hand them in. I want the printout of the software answers to these
       problems. Hand written is not acceptable.

IN CLASS THURSDAY (WE WILL START)
    Chapter 3, numbering systems.
    B<>D, B<>H, B<>BCD, binary addition, Octal, ASCII
    quick overview of the 2's complement numbering system.
    Mack's Numbers Notes, These notes go into more detail than the
      book. Please note that 2's complement numbers are not required for
      this course but they are shown in the notes for those of you who are
      interested. There are also additional (optional) problems in these
      notes.
    LOTS OF NUMBER CONVERSION WORK in the lab time.

      we will introduced physical addressing of the plc and I gave
       several handouts for students to look over this weekend. We also
       went to the lab to start the PLC Hardware lab

      We will discuss PLC hardware and IO addressing.

      LAB LOGIXPRO Programming lab, start the student exercises.

   Thursday, Quiz: chapter 1&3, overview of the PLC and some
     numbering systems.

     Lab manual answers to problem 2-1. The lab manual answer
     must be programs from the simulator software (LOGIXPRO).
     This may not be hand written, I want a screen capture of the
     ladder logic programs.

Write a summary sheet discussing the TON, TOF, RTO timers and
their status bits.

   LAB MANUAL: 6-10(door simulation), 6-11 to 6-15(silo
    simulation) there are many possible answers to this problem. The
    SILO is a unique problem and will take so serious thought to solve.
