Romelia Calderon or as everyone knows her “Romi” was born in Mexico City on July
14, 1973 to her Mom Pichy, her Dad Sergio and three brothers, Sergio, Guillermo
and Samuel.

Romi started riding at the age of thirteen in Mexico City; she knew after that
first lesson this was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. She became a
professional at the age of 16; by the age of 17 she had several wins under her
sleeve in the Junior division regional and national.

In July of 1990 she went to Waterstock House Training Centre in England where
she was a working student for 2 times World Champion Lars Sederholm, after more
than a year of intense training, she came back home turned into a knowledgeable,
serious and more determined professional.

From 1992 to 1996, she was an assistant trainer for international Grand Prix rider
Lois Langer at the Club Hipico Neptuno. Her wins on customers horses like
Bodyguard, Big Toy, Preludio, Pastoral and Moonlight made a huge impact in the
professional divisions; unfortunately an accident on a green horse forced her close
to a year off.

Romi made her come back in June 1997 ridding for Mexican international riders
like World Cup finalist Lorenza O’Farrill, Olympians Jaime Guerra and Luis Guasch
for whom she jumped a 6’11 puissance wall aboard Arete III. Clinics throughout
Mexico and Central America were key part to her busy schedule, teaching and
couching riders like Roxy Herrera to a 2nd place finish in the Samsung International
and Juan Jose Pivaral (Guatemala) Gold Medal in the Central American Games.

Since 2000 she has been located in Temecula, CA showing successfully in the
Modified and Open divisions through California, including international shows where
she has been tested against Olympic rider Jeroen Dubbeldaum (HOL) and three
times World Champion Rodrigo Pessoa. Some of her achievements in California
include a 2nd place at the Oaks open Classic, 2nd at the Showpark Open Classic, 8th
place at the $50,000 Ford Derby of the US and several champions and reserve on
the Modified and Young Jumper Classics, not to mention all the titles won by her
students in the hunter, jumper and equitation divisions.

Romi’s vast exposure and experience with Top World riders and international
competitions have helped her in the goal of being a successful rider, trainer and
great advisor when it comes to buying and selling horses. Working with
partner/trainer Hope Davis the 2005 show season was very successful, with
Pernot’s debut in the Grand Prix which was also Romi’s debut, the pair came in
third, SeaBridge’s GP debut in Kentucky with a 4th place finish, 6 other Major
placings in Grand Prix and the first win at the Lexington Spring Encore (Lexington,
VA) for Romi and Pernot.

The 2006 season started great with a 2nd place finish at the Tucson Classic Grand
Prix , the title for the $50,000 Mary’s Ranch & Coast Grand Prix and major
placings in World Cup Qualifying competitions.

In 2007 winner of the first ever Grand Prix in the prestigious show in Thermal, CA.
High placings in every Grand Prix she entered took her to the World Cup Finals in
Las Vegas and to Mexico City, her home town for the Trials for the XV Pan-
American Games. Seabridge sold for top dollar at the trials.

The 2008 season started well on Pernot winning the $25,000 Kachina Classic Grand
Prix in Tucson, AZ and the debut of John’s Flight in the Grand Prix ring with a
clear round and an 8th place finish. Both horses got sold that spring.

Having sold her group of horses, she spent 2009 bringing a new group along. Also
working with “SIG International” training, competing and selling horses Nationally
and Internationally.

2010 was a very successful year in the horse trade with several horses sold and
more imports on the way Romi’s focus is in the business and ready for her next top
horse.
