• My power point is on ten of the most haunted places in America. This presentation will give you information as well as pictures of each of the haunted places.

The Steve Lee House
• Located in Black Forest, Colorado • owned by Steve and Beth Lee • Hauntings began within a few weeks of purchasing their new home in 1992
• One day they came home and said it was like the fourth of July in their living room. There were all kinds of flashing lights in their house and it sounded like people were stomping on their roof. At night they would here chains rattling and one night even woke up to hear orchestra music.
• Boys complained about strange noises and lights in their room. They also said appliances would go on and off by themselves. There was also an untraceable odor that stung their eyes and throat.
• Over next four years, Lees had 62 unexplainable “break ins” • police conducted 45 follow ups but couldn’t find any evidence of a crime

The Myrtles Plantation

• Built in 1794 • General David Bradford • along Mississippi River
What Lead To the Hauntings
• Sara Matilda, the daughter of David Bradford, married Judge Clark Woodruffe. They had 2 children already and the 3rd was on the way. But then Woodruffe started having intimate relationships with one of his slaves. Later he stopped with her and moved on to another slave. The slave wanted to get his respect back.
• So she was going to put just a little poison in the kids’ birthday cake. Not enough to kill them, but just enough to make them sick so she could nurse them back to health. She put too much in and it killed the children. Other slaves, afraid of getting punished as well, took her and hung her.
Paranormal Happenings
• It is said that whenever all the lights are off, one of the spirits will visit- said that all lights haven’t been off since 1900 • Chloe, the slave, has also been reported to wonder the grounds
More Hauntings
• The Woodruffe children haunt the halls of the mansion • a French woman • a young girl with long curly hair that is wearing a ankle length dress- only seen when there is a thunderstorm coming
Stories of the Plantation
• People say that the grand piano plays by itself. It plays the same chord over and over again. • A maid was mopping and she entered one room where there was a spot that no matter how hard she pushed the mop. She couldn’t mop there. She said it was like there was someone standing there. Strangely that spot was where someone was shot after the Civil

• Past owners claim that at night they see a girl with a candle walking up the stairs. They think it is Sara Matilda looking for her husband. Five other owners have claimed to see this also. • Painting in room where children were killed also flew off the wall. One owner was struck in the head with it.

Winchester Mansion
• Started by Sara Winchester in 1884 • never stopped building until the day she died • believed to be haunted by spirits of those who died by the rifle that bared her name
Size of the Mansion
• Estimated 750 chambers- which 160 of still stand • some walls as much as 2 ft thick • some ceilings so low that average person would stoop not to bump head
• Miles of tunnels, walkways and secret passages • one floor was the back wall of a walk-in ice box

Dudleytown
• This town was settled in 1738 • it was a cursed village • town plagued with accidents, suicide and insanity
• Could just be branches but can you see the perfect skull
• Again could just be branches but there are 2 big faces

• Opened in 1854 as Army fortress • 1861-became fortress/ prison • 1868- became prison • 1963-prison closed
Why Could It Be Haunted?
• People think that there are many spirits still on this island. Some could be prisoners. There was so many bad things going on that some of the prisoners may never have left. Some of the spirits could also be some of the people that helped build the prison. During 1857, while building the prison, a landslide of 7,000 cubic yards of rock buried 7 workers.

Gettysburg
• This was one of if not the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. This war claimed over 51,000 casualities. Some say their spirits haven’t left.
• When this picture was taken, this man in gray was not there. Five people were witness to this.
• Farnsworth House Inn is located in the town of Gettysburg. This house is said to be haunted. This picture was taken outside it when it was closed and there was no one in the house. Then what is in the

Bachelor’s Grove Cemetary
• Was set aside for burial purposes in 1864 • got its name from town that surrounded it. Most of the men who lived there were unmarried.
• There have been over 100 incidents that have happened here. For example, a phantom farm house is seen, but never in the same place. But it is always described the same. House is described as a white house, with porch pillars, a swing and a soft light burning in the window.
• The lagoon next to the cemetary is also haunted. It was a popular dumping spot for gangsters so they suspect that’s where these spirits come from. The most well know ghost is a farmer who was pulled in by is plow horse. They both drowned. But people said they seem them plowing the field 100 years later.

The Lemp Mansion
• Built in 1838 • 1845-Lemp was an established beer seller • 1850- one of the largest sellers in the city • prohibition killed the company • 1922- sold off to shoe company
• William Lemp was the first one to die. • Died of heart disease • go figure • 1904- William Lemp Sr. took a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver and shot himself in the head.
• This man: William Lemp Jr. was the owner of the company when it went under. He and his family members were still rich.

The Old Slave House
• One of the only places in Illinois that had slavery. • Haunted by the slaves that lived there
• John Hart Crenshaw was the owner • said to have fathered over 300 children • lived to be 112 • died in 1948 • never left

The Bell Witch Cave
• Story of the Bell Witch started in 1817 • Bell family was getting haunted or tormented by some being
• The Bell family experienced many things in their home. The house was plagued with knocking and scratching noises. Family members were kicked, scratched, and their hair pulled. Especially tormented was 12 year old Betsy Bell. She was slapped, pinched, bruised and struck with pins. John Bell was killed by this witch.
The Witch
• At John’s funeral, the witch was was cursing and laughing at him as they buried him. She didn’t leave their house after his death either. She wouldn’t let Betsy Bell marry her true love. When the ghost did leave, she went to John Bell Jr.’s house and predicted the Civil and World Wars. This was in 1817.
