SQL Server 2000 error-log files There are 2 error log files you can look into if your SQL Server has stopped working. The error details provided may not be very helpful but gives an indication as to where the error occurred. Always refer the error log files before concluding for a fresh SQL Server installation: 1. Errorlog: Created during the configuration portion of the setup. At this stage, all program files are already transferred, and setup tries to start SQL Server and connect to it. Any errors that occur during this process are required in errorlog (some are also recorded in sqlstp.log) 2. Sqlstp.log: Contains detailed information about all the errors (and events) that occurred during setup.
