									Report on the activities of the Mvita Constituency
Development Committee Projects 2003/4 to 2006/7
INTRODUCTION

During the financial year 2003/4 all constituency Development Committee’s were
allocated an amount of Kshs.6, 000,000.00 to implement the project that they had
submitted to the parliament

The Mvita Constituency Development Committee was constituted and its members were
selected according to the act by the Area M.P. The Committee members are as follows:

           •   DESKS PROJECTS

The project was allocated Kshs. 2,750,000.00 in financial year 2003/4. 1,100 desks were
produced and supplied to 11 primary schools in Mvita constituency as below:

           •   IT(COMPUTERS)PROJECT

The project was allocated Kshs. 1,300,000.00 in financial year 2003/4. 11 primary schools
in Mvita constituency were supplied with a computer, a UPS, a scanner and a printer. The
IT (Computer) project benefited the following schools.

           •   BOREHOLE PROJECT

In the financial year 2003/4 the project was allocated Kshs. 1,200,000.00. Mvita CDF
carried out boreholes in the following areas:
    • Floringi borehole Project, Bondeni,
    • Guraya borehole project, Majengo
    • Malandini borehole project, Tononoka and
    • Railways Quotas borehole project, Shimanzi

Mvita CDF made an allocation of Kshs.600, 000.00 in financial year 2004/5 for the
drilling of a borehole at Sarigoi at Mwembe Tayari Ward. The drilling contract was
awarded to Earth core drillers at a price of Kshs.444, 078.70. The borehole is complete
and was commissioned on May 2006. The balance of this financial year was re-allocated to
Malandini toilets project.

In financial year 2005/6 Mvita CDF has allocated Kshs. 1,200,000.00 for drilling four
boreholes at the following areas and the contract has been awarded to Water Works
Drilling Co. Ltd. The areas include:
    • Mzizima, Tononoka Ward
    • Mwembe Tanganyika, Majengo Ward
    • Makupa Asian Quotas, Kingorani Ward
    • Kidogo Basi, Bondeni Ward.

                                    PROJECTS 2004/5

       •   SHEIKH ABDALLAH AL-FARSY SECONDARY SCHOOL PROJECT
           (2004/5)

The project has a total allocation of Kshs. 13,347,000.00 in the financial year 2004/5.
Mvita CDF is constructing a two storey building broken down into two blocks; the
administration block which houses the administration and the laboratory and the
classroom block which houses the eight class rooms and toilets. The contract stands at
Kshs. 19,800,000.00 inclusive of the furniture. The balance of Kshs. 6,433,000.00 has
been allocated in the financial year 2006/7. The project is still on going and is schedule to
be complete by December 15th 2006.
       •   MVITA SCHOOLS REHABILITATION PROJECT

In the financial year 2004/5, this project was allocated Kshs.200, 000.00 towards Shariff
Nassir Girl’s Secondary School for the facilitation of the Laboratory equipment and
Library books. The supply of books was awarded to Eden Bookshop at a price of Kshs.
68,288.00. The balance of Kshs. 131,712.00 was used to purchase the laboratory
equipments.

Mvita CDF made an allocation of Kshs. 2,636,000.00 towards the rehabilitation project in
the following listed schools below:

       •   Makande Primary School – Renovation project
       •   Majengo Primary School – Toilet project
       •   Makupa Primary School – Borehole project


       •   CHIEF’S OFFICE PROJECT/SECURITY

The project was allocated Kshs. 1,700,000.00 for the construction of the Mwembe Tayari
Chief’s Office. The contract was awarded to Cirango building constructors and general
renovators at a price of Kshs. 1.68 million. We are scheduled to commission the project
by the end of September 2006.
       •   TRAINING CENTER PROJECT

The project was allocated Kshs. 3,640,000.00 in financial year 2004/5 to improve the
quality of the tertiary education training within Mvita Constituency through the
expansion of Small Scale Business Center at the Mombasa Technical Training Institute.
This program aims to train 350 youth in the areas of
        • IT
        • Textile Technology
        • Small Scale Entrepreneurship

In the financial year 2005/6 this project was allocated Kshs.3, 000,000.00.

               •   SANITATION (MALANDINI TOILETS ) PROJECT

The project was allocated Kshs.450, 000.00 in financial year 2004/5 to construct a toilet
with 12 units at Malandini Area in Tononoka Ward.

       •   EMERGENCY (2004/5)

An accident at Kingorani traffic lights where a lorry smashed into a wall adjacent to the
road injuring a family of five

       •   TERTIARY FUND PROJECT(2004/5 and 2005/6)

The project was allocated Kshs. 2,000,000.00 in financial year 2004/5 for bursary
disbursement and driving training for people of Mvita. Seven people were taken to glory
driving school at a price of Kshs. 49,000.00 eighty eight people were awarded the bursary
totaling to Kshs.1, 482,727. A balance of Kshs. 517,273.00 was brought forward to 2005/6
financial year.


In financial year 2005/6, the project was allocated Kshs. 2,000,000.00. 100 people were
sponsored in driving course training at IQRA driving school at Kshs. 500,000.00. The
balance of Kshs. 1,500,000.00 has been utilized in disbursing bursary to the colleges and
universities for 172 students. From the balance of 2004/5 which was carried forward to
financial year 2005/6 was utilized in disbursing bursary to the students.
                                     PROJECTS 2005/6


       •   MVITA SECONDARY SCHOOL PROJECT

The project has a total allocation of Kshs. 10,000,000.00 in the financial year 2005/6.
Mvita CDF is constructing a two storey building broken down into two blocks; the
administration block which houses the administration and the laboratory and the
classroom block which houses the eight class rooms and toilets. The contract stands at
Kshs. 19,800,000.00 inclusive of the furniture. The shortfall of Kshs. 9,800,000.00 is set
to be cover in the secondary school allocation in the financial year 2006/7. The project is
still on going and is schedule to be complete by December 15th 2006.


       •    DRAINAGE AND PAVING PROJECT(2005/6)

The drainage and paving project was allocated Kshs. 3,000,000.00 in the financial year
2005/6 for Mwembe Tanganyika area from the Mvita CDF. Through a partnership with
the Citizens Forum Trust, the project received a sponsorship of 8.8 Million Kenya
shillings from the Safaricom Foundation.
