Dear Senior and Parents,
Tuesday, September 18th and Wednesday, October 17th are two opportunities for
seniors to job shadow or college visit. While freshman, sophomores and juniors are testing on
these days, seniors will be afforded the opportunity to gain information on a college or career.
For this to be a success it must be a joint effort of parents, students and the school. Since the
students will not report to school if they choose this activity, we (counselors) must know that
you (the parent) know where they are and what they are doing. Although the testing for the
other classes ends at noon, it is understandable that some activities, such as a campus visit
outside the city cannot be completed in that time frame.
The following activities will be approved for your participation.
Job Shadow – but it cannot be at your regular employment. Make arrangements to go to
work with someone in a career of interest to you. The day could be split between two
ON-Campus College Visit – Make an appointment ahead of time, and visit a college.
Parents are encouraged to accompany their student. PLEASE DO NOT JUST SHOW UP
AT THE COLLEGE. YOU NEED TO CALL AHEAD AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.
PHONE NUMBERS ARE AVAILABLE ON- LINE OR IN STUDENT SERVICES. NOTE:
IPFW IS NOT ACCEPTING VISITORS ON SEPTEMBER 18TH.
Other educational related activity, proposed on an individual basis, IF approved by
your guidance counselor.
Parents please call the attendance office as soon as you have finalized
arrangements and report what your child is doing on these days. You do not need to
wait till the morning of the 18th and 17th to call. If students bring verification of their job
shadow or college visit in the form of a letter (from the college or employer) back in to the
attendance office, the day(s) will not go towards their ten parent excused days.
Students: Share this information with your parents and START MAKING PLANS NOW FOR
THESE DATES. We, the counselors, are very excited about providing this option for students.
We hope you share our enthusiasm and help us make it a valuable learning experience.
If the senior student chooses not to participate in one of the above activities he or
she will be expected to be in school in a supervised study hall for the day.
Absentees on that morning will result in truancy.
