FREESKATE REQUIREMENTS
*Male and Females will compete separately in the Freeskate event and combined for Compulsory events.

Basic 1 & 2 (Program A): 1 foot glide left & right, two-foot turn in place, forward & backward swizzles, & a moving
snowplow stop.

Basic 3 & 4 (Program B): Forward stroking, forward crossovers (both directions), backward 1 foot glide (either foot), 2
foot spin & backward stroking.

Basic 5 & 6 (Program C): Backward crossovers both directions, back outside edge on a circle R & L, T-stop, forward
arabesque & a one-foot spin.

Basic 7 & 8 (Program D): R & L forward inside 3 turns, combination move: (two crossovers, into forward inside Mohawk,
cross behind, step into backward crossover and step to forward inside edge, one direction only), mazurka, one foot spin &
a waltz jump.

Low Beginner: Well balanced program with a MAXIMUM of five jump elements. Salchow, toe-loop and ½ rotation jumps
permitted ONLY. All jumps may be repeated as individual jumps or in combination or sequence. No more than three
combos or sequences, one combo may have three jumps / others only two. Number of jumps in sequence is free.
Maximum of two spins of different nature. One step sequence using ½ of the ice surface.

High Beginner: Well balanced program with a MAXIMUM of five jump elements. Axel and double jumps are not permitted
at this level. All jumps may be repeated as individual jumps or in combination or sequence. No more than three combos or
sequences, one combo may have three jumps / others only two. Number of jumps in sequence is free. Maximum of two
spins of different nature. One step sequence using ½ of the ice surface.

Limited Pre-Preliminary: Well balanced program with a MAXIMUM of five jump elements. Axel and double jumps are not
permitted at this level. All jumps may be repeated as individual jumps or in combination or sequence. No more than three
combos or sequences, one combo may have three jumps / others only two. Number of jumps in sequence is free.
Maximum of two spins of different nature. One step sequence using ½ of the ice surface.

Pre-Preliminary: Well balanced program with a MAXIMUM of five jump elements. Double jumps are NOT PERMITTED
and a maximum of 2 axels are allowed at this level. All jumps may be repeated as individual jumps or in combination or
sequence. No more than three combos or sequences, one combo may have three jumps / others only two. Number of
jumps in sequence is free. Maximum of two spins of different nature. One step sequence using ½ of the ice surface.

Preliminary: Well balanced program with a MAXIMUM of five jump elements. An axel or waltz jump type jump is
REQUIRED. An axel & two double jumps may be repeated only once as individual jumps, in combination or in sequence.
Double axel and triple jumps are not permitted. No more than three combos or sequences, one combo may have three
jumps / others only two. Number of jumps in sequence is free. Maximum of two spins of different nature. One step
sequence using ½ of the ice surface.

Pre-Juvenile: Well balanced program with a MAXIMUM of five jump elements. One axel type jump required. An axel &
three double jumps may be repeated only once as individual jumps, in combination or in sequence. Double axel and triple

surface.
Juvenile/Open Juvenile: We will be following the skating element guidelines from the 2012 Free Skating Requirements
– USFS 3600-3800

Intermediate: We will be following the skating element guidelines from the 2012 Free Skating Requirements – USFS
3600-3800

Novice: We will be following the skating element guidelines from the 2012 Free Skating Requirements – USFS 3600-
3800

Junior Ladies: We will be following the skating element guidelines from the 2012 Free Skating Requirements – USFS
3600-3800

Junior Men: We will be following the skating element guidelines from the 2012 Free Skating Requirements – USFS
3600-3800

Adult: As entries warrant, events will be divided in Pre-Bronze, Bronze, Silver, for competitors who are 26 years of age
and older.

COMPULSORY REQUIREMENTS
Basic Skill – Preliminary skaters will compete on 1/2 of the rink. Pre-Juvenile – Juvenile will compete with a full sheet of
ice. Elements must be skated in the order listed. No music.

Basic 1 (Time: 1:00) - Forward two-foot glide, forward two-foot swizzles 6-8 in a row, forward snowplow stop, backward
wiggles 6-8 in a row.

Basic 2 (Time: 1:00) - Forward one-foot glide, forward alternating ½ swizzle pumps across width of ice, two-foot turn in
place, backward two-foot swizzles 6-8 in a row.

Basic 3 (Time: 1:00) - Forward stroking, forward ½ swizzle pumps on a circle 6-8 in a row, moving forward to backward
two-foot turn, backward one-foot glide, two-foot spin.

Basic 4 (Time: 1:00)- Forward outside edge on a circle, forward crossovers 6-8 consecutive, forward outside 3-turn R&L,
backward stroking and backward snowplow stop.

Basic 5 (Time: 1:00) - Backward outside edge on a circle, backward crossovers 6-8 consecutive, one-foot spin, hockey
stop and side-toe hop.

Basic 6 (Time: 1:00) - Forward inside three turn R&L from standstill, bunny hop, forward spiral on a straight line, lunge, T-
stop.

Basic 7 (Time: 1:00) - Forward inside open Mohawk R to L and L to R, ballet jump, backward crossovers to a back
outside edge landing position, forward inside pivot.

Basic 8 (Time: 1:00)- Moving forward outside or forward inside three turns R&L, waltz jump, mazurka, combination move
(two forward crossovers into FI Mohawk, step behind, step into one backward crossover and step to a forward inside
edge), beginning one-foot upright spin with optional free leg position.

Beginner (Time: 1:00) - Waltz jump, ½ jump of choice, forward two-foot or one-foot spin, forward or backward spiral.

Pre-Preliminary (Time: 1:15) - Flip jump, jump combination waltz jump/toe loop OR salchow/ toe loop, sit spin or camel
spin, spiral sequence (must include a forward and backward spiral. Additional spirals and balance moves such as Ina
Bauers, spread eagles, lunges and shoot the ducks may be included)

Preliminary (Time: 1:15) - Lutz jump, jump combination (may not use lutz jump or axel), camel spin, spiral sequence
(must include a forward and backward spiral. Additional spirals and balance moves such as Ina Bauers, spread eagles,
lunges and shoot the ducks may be included)

Pre-Juvenile (Time: 1:30) – A single jump of choice, a combination jump consisting of single/single or double/single
jumps, a spin combination w/ one change of position and no change of foot, spiral sequence (must include a forward and
backward spiral. Additional spirals and balance moves such as Ina Bauers, spread eagles, lunges and shoot the ducks
may be included)
Juvenile/Open Juvenile (Time: 1:30) – A double jump of choice, a combination jump consisting of double/single or
double/double jumps, a spin combination w/ at least one change of position and only one change of foot, spiral sequence
(must include a forward and backward spiral. Additional spirals and balance moves such as Ina Bauers, spread eagles,
lunges and shoot the ducks may be included)

ARTISTIC REQUIREMENTS
Skaters will be judged on interpretation of theme and tempo of their chosen music. Artistic expression and musical
interpretation are the major elements judged. Appropriate costumes are encouraged but are not required. Props may be
used if they can be placed and removed by the skater in 30 seconds and do not present danger to the skater.

MUSIC
Skaters are to provide their own music on a CD. CD's and cases must be marked with the skater’s name and event.
Athletes should have a second CD which can be used as a backup. All CD's should be turned in at the time of athlete
check-in and can be picked up following the competition.

GROUPING & START-TIMES
7-10 days prior to competition, level groupings, and approximated start times will be available on the schedule.
