      CASH Society still committed to advancing housing consumer
           protection in BC despite the disbandment of the
                     Homeowner Protection Office

(For immediate release on July 5, 2010): On June 1, 2010, Consumer Advocacy and Support for Homeowners
Society ("CASH Society") celebrated its tenth anniversary advocating for BC homeowners.
At the AGM on June 23, 2010 the Society voted in its new board of directors: President-elect is Lorelei
Quiding, Vice President Dan Hall, Secretary/Treasurer Andrena Greavette, Past-President John Grasty,
Directors at Large, Nancy Bain, Alvin Epp, and Mac Ginther.
During its first ten years, CASH Society worked on many fronts to advance housing consumer protection in BC.
Some of the efforts include:

 CASH Society along with other consumers convinced the Campbell government to abandon its plans to
    dissolve the Homeowner Protection Office in 2001;
   Worked with other organizations to twice stop governments attempts to limit liability for construction defects;
 Raised the profile of much needed housing consumer protection in many provincial and federal elections
    including advocating the use of proceeds of crime legislation to take the “profit” out of grow operation and
    meth labs to reduce the number of dangerous houses on the re-sale market;
 Represented housing consumers on government committees dealing with residential construction, building
    code and green building developments. CASH has been invited to contribute in a number of policy
    development initiatives and papers;
   Assisted many homeowners through the onerous process of getting their defective homes fixed;
 Educated tens of thousands of BC homeowners individually, through media opportunities such as newspaper
    articles, television and radio interviews and through CASH’s website www.cashsociety.net.

CASH Society has a tremendous task ahead as the Campbell government has recently disbanded the
Homeowner Protection Office and abandoned support for leaky condos owners through the no-interest loan and
PST relief program.

President – elect Quiding claims: “Someone has to stand up for homeowners. CASH Society was a supportive
lifeline at a time when my husband and I could not resolve serious construction defects with the builder and
warranty provider and we were forced to defend ourselves in court. I am happy to return this support to other
homeowners struggling with no where to go.”

Quiding has ambitious aspirations for CASH Society and her plan along with the details of her story will be
released in the coming weeks.
