Dear Prospective CDF Freedom Schools® Program Sponsor:

This letter is to invite your participation as a CDF Freedom Schools sponsor partner in 2012. The CDF Freedom
Schools program offers educational, cultural, and social development opportunities for children ages 5-18. The
program serves all children but targets low-income minority children and their families. The CDF Freedom Schools
program strives to help children and young adults understand and appreciate their own history and culture in order
to develop the resilience they need to address and overcome academic, social, cultural, and emotional challenges.
Coordinated nationally by the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) in partnership with faith-based organizations,
community-based organizations, schools and institutions of higher education, the CDF Freedom Schools program
models CDF’s Leave No Child Behind® mission to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a
Safe Start, and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and
communities.

This summer, CDF is partnering with over 100 organizations to operate CDF Freedom Schools programs at 151
sites in 87 cities and 27 states. With your help, the Children's Defense Fund seeks to expand the CDF Freedom
Schools Movement to serve more and more children who deserve access to high quality summer and after-school
programming. Together we can make a difference in the lives of our children. The enclosed packet contains

CDF Freedom Schools Program Elements: Please type or write response below.

committed to the concept of intergenerational
 leadership. Experienced adults and college-

work together as a team and to share in the
decision-making process at all levels. The
CDF Freedom Schools program maintains a
child to servant leader intern ratio of 10:1
 for each classroom.
How will your organization recruit qualified
 college-aged interns by the mid-April
deadline? Where will you recruit them from?
 Please provide a detailed plan.
Parent and family involvement is important
 to children’s success.

In order to plan for the needs of all the children we serve, please check the ethnicity of the children in the
community you anticipate serving. (Check all that apply)

       Black Native American Other

3. How many staff persons do you plan to employ in 2012? One trained intern for every 10 children is
the required intern to child class size ratio. (We recommend that you hire one or two additional interns to
   serve as floater-interns.)

Servant Leader Interns Site Coordinators Project Directors Other
Please list any other employees you plan to hire (i.e. including kitchen and janitorial staff, mental health
professionals, art therapist, paid junior servant leaders, etc.).

recommend sponsors begin the curriculum instruction on Monday, June 18, 2012.)

5. Operation of a CDF Freedom Schools summer program serving 50 children requires at least 5
individual classroom spaces; a meeting area large enough for the children to gather for meals,
“Harambee” and other large group activities; and safe outdoor space for children to play. In addition to
