Dear Parents, As the year comes to an end it is time to say goodbye to many of our families. Several children will not be coming back in September and they will be missed by their friends and also by the staff. I would like to wish all of our leaving families all the best for the future. This is our final newsletter of the year, and as you can see the children have had a great time over the last few weeks. We have celebrated our musical talents in a variety of ways, including several assemblies where Parents have been invited into school to watch their children perform. I am delighted that there is a feature in this months newsletter about the KS1 and KS2 swimming galas. Our children excel in swimming thanks to the dedication and hard work of our P.E. teachers. A big thank you to them. There have been huge developments in the re-establishing of our Parents as Partners committee this month. Look out for a lot more information about this in September on our PAP board situated next to the outside parents notice board. Although we are all looking forward to the Summer holiday, the end of term is also a sad time for Primary, as it is time to finally say goodbye to some of our staff. We are saying farewell to Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Jenkins, Mrs. Corr, Mrs. Davies, Mrs. Pilkington, Mrs. Kennedy and Mrs. Daley and they will all be missed. Although I have not been at the school for very long, I have started to get to know the staff and find them to be an extremely committed and hardworking team. I know that whatever paths our leaving staff have chosen, they will take their energy and enthusiasm with them. I would like to say a huge thank you to all our leaving staff for the years of service that they have given to Doha College Primary. I wish them every success and hope very much that we will see them again in the future. I have asked one member of staff and one child to write a little bit about each person who is leaving. Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Jenkins, Mrs. Corr, Mrs. Pilkington, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Daley and Mrs. Kennedy have also written their own goodbye message. I would like to thank all of our families for their continued support this year. I wish you all a very happy and safe summer holiday. Best Wishes Jo Sawyer
A fond farewell
Mrs. Corr
For these last 2 years it has been a privilege and a pleasure to teach all the wonderful Reception Yellow children in Primary and play a part in the education of many others, in my role as Key Stage Achievement Leader - Infants. I have enjoyed tremendous support from both colleagues and parents, especially in my enhanced management role last term. It was with a sad heart that I have had to make a personal and professional decision to leave Doha College Primary so soon. Many thanks to all, but I am not going very far away, so hope to see you around!
A letter from her class
From Mrs. Bowness I have had the pleasure of working alongside Liz Corr for the past two years in our role as Key Stage Leaders. In that time I have seen her work hard to develop the Early Years Department into a Thriving and competitive part of the school. She has completely changed the admissions procedure into Early Years, making it a much more pleasant and non threatening process for the children. My own son took part in that process and left the school looking forward to joining Doha College the following September. Through good times and bad times Liz has given 100%. She was always there to support the children, teachers and parents. I am very sad to say goodbye to her and know that her new school is gaining a truly talented teacher. I wish her every success for the future.
Mrs. Daley
I would like to take this opportunity to thank primarily the children but also colleagues and parents of Doha College Primary, who have been an invaluable support to me and made my seven years of teaching so enjoyable. It has been a real privilege to be part of such a thriving and multi-cultural establishment. I have seen and been part of many changes over the years and with this I have developed and grown both personally and professionally, I shall be sorry to leave behind many memories, happy and sad. I wish there was time to recount so many moments I have shared with each class I have taught but they will be taken with me. I now look forward to moving to my new school and sharing with new colleagues the knowledge and understanding I have gained from my Years at DCP. From Mr. Filewod A fantastic colleague to work with a huge number of strengths powered by a special ingredient. Please forgive me this short riddle written in the form of an acrostic poem. Mrs. Jenkins
I have been with Doha College now for 2 years and have enjoyed watching our swimmers go from strength to strength!. Our Squad swimmers should be very proud of themselves - our Key Stage 1 swimmers won their inter-school gala and out Key Stage 2 swimmers came 2nd out of 9 schools!. All the children should be proud of themselves, they are so well mannered, polite, listen hard and have been a pleasure to teach. I will miss you all. I will still be in Doha, so if you see me out and about make sure you come and say Hi!
A letter from two of her pupils
Mrs. Pilkington
As I leave Doha College Primary (after nine years in total) to begin the next chapter of my career, I would like to thank the wonderful children and parents that I have had the pleasure to work with. The pupils have been outstanding, not just in the work they produce, but in the manner in which they conduct themselves. I will miss them a great deal. I can honestly say that working at the school has given me some of the best moments of my teaching career. Every day has brought new challenges and surprises, inspiring me to try new ideas. I have particularly enjoyed my role as English Subject Leader particularly thinking of Book Week, which definitely showed the children having fun whilst working. I have so many magic moments to take with me! I am not leaving Doha, so I look forward to seeing you around town. I wish you all continued success in your own lives.
From Ms. Hall and Mrs. Hewitt We have both really enjoyed working closely with Mrs. Pilkington in Years 2 and 3. During that time we discovered that we shared the same taste in colours and that we both had an uncanny knack of cocoordinating those colours on a regular basis with the clothes we wore. Not only that but we shared the same taste in jewellery too, which was useful when it came to birthdays! Throughout the time we worked with Mrs. A letter from Ayan in her class Pilkington we always admired her hardworking attitude and dedication to her job and to the children she taught. She was always ready to give support and share great ideas to make learning fun and interesting for those lucky students she came into contact with. Her sense of humour and ability to laugh when things go pear-shaped prove beyond doubt that when the going gets tough, the tough get going! We are sure she will enjoy and rise to the challenges she will face in her new school and would like to wish her every success. We will miss her both personally and professionally.
Mrs. Wilson
After 6 years of living in Doha, the time has come where I must leave to settle my daughters into universities in Scotland. This being the case, I will no longer be working in school after summer and will truly miss teaching the pre-school children and monitoring their every day developments. I have a real emotional attachment towards them and will never forget some of the funny and not so funny moments we shared every day in the classroom; in addition to their little comments that made me feel so valued in their little lives. Working in Doha College and being a member of the staff community for the past two years has been an enjoyable and interesting experience, which I will look back on with many positive memories. A visit will be guaranteed in October, considering all goes as planned. Have a wonderful summer. From Mrs. Elsby and the pre-school team I am very sad to be saying goodbye to a very special lady, Mrs. Wilson is a valued member of our staff but to me she is not only a work colleague but a friend. When Mrs. Wilson came to work in Preschool Green 2 years ago now, it never felt like she was a new member to the Early Years it was as if she had been with us before "SPOOKY!' Mrs. Wilson is very loving and warm hearted and the children love her to bits, I am sure they will have fond memories of the 'crazy cleaning lady' in Preschool Green. One last thing I should A goodbye card from her class explain, she is the most obsessive cleaner I have ever known and my classroom has never been so spick and span. Mrs. Kennedy
Dear 1P, what a lively, vibrant and hard working class you have been. Thank you for making me feel so welcome and for all your help this term. I hope you all have a wonderful summer break and come back to Year 2 with all that lovely enthusiasm, ready for work. Remember...Capital letters and full stops!
From Emma in 1P From Mrs. Mellon What a pleasure it has been to have Mrs. Kennedy working with us this term. She is so cheerful and enthusiastic. The children have really enjoyed having her in the class. She has been a great member of the team and we will all miss her.
Mrs. Davis
As my time in Doha College comes to a close it is time for me to reflect on my four years here. The thing that I have most valued about the children I have been lucky enough to teach here is their enthusiasm. If it could be bottled the world would be a much better place. They give their all to what they do and I feel privileged to have spent time with them. I would like to thank the many parents I have had the pleasure of dealing with for their support and desire to have their children be the best they can be. I am very grateful to the teaching partners I have worked with in the four years I have been here. I will always remember Mrs. Daley who helped me through my first year here, Miss McKinnon the display guru and finally Mrs. Bootland for her energy and drive. I would like to thank the Year 5 Mrs. Ray and Miss Jenkins who donned their overalls and were such a help in our travels this year. I consider myself a life long learner and I have certainly continued to learn while working with each of them. As many of my students will know, I am one for a bit of a song. Infact, I have a line from a song for almost any occasion. Initially it was Should I Stay or Should I go?. When the decision was made it was then Im Leaving on a Jet Plane Dont Know When Ill be Back Again. On that note I wish you all a very safe and happy onward journey.
The Year Five Children are feeling sad about the upcoming departure of Ms. Davis and wanted to be a part of her Good-bye letter. They have loved learning from her and will always remember her as an incredible teacher. I feel very grateful to have had the opportunity to teach with and learn from such a Wonder Woman. She is truly an amazing person. What will be Missed about Catherine Davis Shes a story teller who makes learning real. Shes got a soft heart behind an exterior of steel, She brings History alive from the past, And makes it so fun that learnings a blast And she is a mathematician. I think youll find, If you look into her genius mind. She has integrity, she stands behind what she feels is right. She is respected for her ideas, not her might. She teaches real skills and knowledge that students will be able to use in the future, She is an amazing teacher. She is an actress, a comedian, a mentor, an artist By the children and teachers, and especially me, she will truly be missed.
