   The Gift of Work

     The Gift of Work

 Then the Lord God took
the man and put him in
the garden of Eden to tend
       and keep it.

     Genesis 2:15 (NKJV)
         Work for God

And whatever you do, do it
heartily, as to the Lord and not
to men, knowing that from the
   Lord you will receive the
 reward of the inheritance; for
   you serve the Lord Christ.
       Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)
 Work for Self-Sufficiency

But let each one examine his
own work, and then he will
  have rejoicing in himself
  alone, and not in another.
For each one shall bear his
          own load.
     Galatians 6:4-5 (NKJV)
“It is not from the benevolence
of the butcher, the brewer, or
the baker that we expect our
dinner, but from their regard
to their own self-interest. We
address ourselves, not to their
humanity but to their self-love,
and never talk to them of our
own necessities but of their
advantages.”

                  Adam Smith
We did not eat anyone‟s bread free of
charge, but worked with labor and
toil night and day, that we might not
be a burden to any of you, not
because we do not have authority,
but to make ourselves an example of
how you should follow us. For even
when we were with you, we
commanded you this: If anyone will
not work, neither shall he eat.

    2 Thessalonians 3:7-12 (NKJV)
For we hear that there are some
who walk among you in a
disorderly manner, not working at
all, but are busybodies. Now those
who are such we command and
  exhort through our Lord Jesus
Christ that they work in quietness
      and eat their own bread.

            Profiting
                                 Spending
She considers a field and buys it;
from her profits she plants a
vineyard… She perceives that her
  merchandise is good, and her
lamp does not go out by night…
And does not eat the bread of
 idleness. She extends her hand
to the poor, yes, she reaches out
her hands to the needy. Give her
of the fruit of her hands.
      Proverbs 31:16-31 (NKJV)
“But his lord answered and said to
him, „You wicked and lazy servant, you
knew that I reap where I have not
sown, and gather where I have not
scattered seed. So you ought to have
deposited my money with the bankers,
and at my coming I would have
received back my own with interest.
So take the talent from him, and
give it to him who has ten talents.”

       Matthew 25:26-28 (NKJV)
Treat People Fairly,
    Not Equally
“The natural effort of every individual
to better his own condition … is so
powerful a principle, that it is alone
capable of carrying on the society to
wealth and prosperity… surmounting
a hundred obstructions with which the
folly of human laws too often
encumbers its operations. The drive
for greater government regulation is
the drive toward increased poverty,
unemployment and the loss of liberty.”
