At first there are a number of similarities between Dogpile and Kartoo, they are both search engines, with a simple presentation, with a white search box and the use of 'safe' colors; blue for Kartoo and blue and green with Dogpile. Both use an image to enhance the perception of their site, with Dogpile it is a dog, and the theme is carried through with some small text links to favorite searches, called favorite fetches. It is interesting to note that there are some similarities between the dog used by Dogpile and Lycos, a white dog with black patches. The button to instigate the search says 'go fetch' The Kartoo homepage has a genie like creature, which is more subtle and is shown as a genie thinking when results are being collected. The default is for the search page to go to the local search page, for example, Kartoo UK, Kartoo Italy etc. with the appearance of the localized home page for Dogpile in the relevant local language. 2. Looking at the basic and the advantages search features there are both similarities and differences.
